We begin with visits to families producing Pottery of the many varieties of color the region produces, where you will gain an insight not only into the raw ingredients and techniques used, but also the different motivations that inspire this work and the demand from the markets that shape their production.
Then, you are in for a true feast for the senses, the Alebrijes studio that inspired worldwide exhibitions and the creators of the Disney movie ‘Coco’. We will be guided through each stage of production, beginning with sourcing the timber & pigments from nature, to the intricate painting of the finished sculpture.
Lunch is a delight, with a magnificent spread of local cuisine on offer and cooked to perfection.
After which we proceed to the distillery of one of Oaxaca’s pioneering producers of Mezcal. Not only does it stand out for the quality of liquor that is produced, the whole production is based around an organic and sustainable production method.

5.00My boyfriend and I loved this tour; we wanted to know more about the cultural heritage of Oaxaca, we were served! The visit to the pottery studios run by local families was exceptional: we were able to observe them and learn more about the different processes and motivations when it comes to creating. Lunch was delicious, and the visit to alebrijes studio was magical. After this rich day of sharing and learning, we had the opportunity to taste Mezcal in a distillery, what better way to end such a beautiful day! The tour was very well organized and the guide punctual, very pleasant and full of knowledge!

5.00This was a great tour where we experienced lots of great, local food but also learned so much about the city and Oaxacan culture. The tour was very well paced where we didn't feel uncomfortably full or that there was too much eating. I highly recommend it.

5.00Our awesome guide, Jorge, immersed us in some of the very best of Oaxacan culture! We visited the studios of clay and pottery artisans who are not only masters of their crafts but also part of the origination and history of these art forms! A delicious group lunch followed by a masterclass-level mezcal farm/distillery tour completed a perfect day.
Worth every penny- the highlight of my time in Oaxaca.

5.00This experience was beyond great. The guide, Jorge was informed, respectful, attentive, and lots of fun. He set a positive vibe for the whole trip. The tour encompassed too many highlights for me to even begin to describe! There were only one couple besides myself, so it was essentially a private tour. Everyone had such a fantastic time. It was like old friends getting together. Jorge chose amazing representatives of different crafts and artisans. This all day tour changed itinerary slightly, due to unexpected closures, but Jorge knew the area and the people so well that it went off seamlessly. I can wholeheartedly endorse this tour for those interested in seeing beautiful areas in and around Oaxaca, and authentic craftsmen and women.

5.00An absolutely incredible visit. For an art lover like me, I couldn't have dreamed of anything better. We travel "to the source" to discover the wealth of know-how and inspiration of the Oaxaca region, where modernity and tradition meet. We had the opportunity to visit families who make ceramics, very typical of Oaxaca; I will never forget the kindness and bright colors of the ceramics made with great love. I loved this moment of exchange. I also loved the visit to the alebrijes workshops and the tasty lunch we enjoyed. All my senses were put to work during this excursion, which I would recommend to anyone who wants to live an authentic experience and discover the beautiful cultural heritage of the region

5.00As a great lover of gastronomy, and in particular Mexican gastronomy, I could not have dreamed of a better tour dedicated to the culinary and artisanal arts of Oaxaca! I appreciated the direct and authentic contact with the locals who made us taste multiple exquisite and typically Mexican flavors! I loved visiting the “manos que ven” ceramic studio with very inspiring and original creations. After an active day, the visit to the distillery with mezcal tasting was absolutely fabulous to end the tour on a good note. I highly recommend Mexico Kan Tours!

5.00It was an absolutely fascinating immersion rich in learning about Mexican culture! I loved this authentic experience where we met different families who make pottery with different colors! We were also able to see the Alebrijes, small figurines from Mexican folklore which inspired the directors of the Disney film “Coco”. My favorite moment remains when we tasted Mezcal in a distillery of a pioneer producer in the city so famous for its agave and Mezcal production. Thank you for this tour which will remain forever engraved in my memory and which made me discover the beauty of Oaxaca, through its culture and its people.

5.00What can I say other than: Best. Trip. Ever. I have been dreaming of coming to Oaxaca for quite a while now and it has definitely not disappointed! My wife and I have fallen in love with this beautiful region of Mexico and this tour made the trip even extra special! The Mezcal distillery was absolutely fascinating, as a Mezcal enthusiast I was in heaven! Totally enjoyed the authentic Zapotec cuisine as well, everything was cooked to perfection!
