Milford Sound is in the Fiordland National Park, which is part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site which covers 26,000km² and encompassing four national parks. It is widely considered to be one of the World’s top travel destinations. At Cruise Milford we know that you will have a wonderful and truly memorable day out on your Milford Sound cruise. A beautiful cruise along the coasts of Milford Sound that lasted about 2 hours. Our captain and commentator Chris was both knowledgeable and entertaining, giving us lots of cool information about the fjord and the vegetation and wildlife around it intermingled with funny dad jokes. We were fortunate enough to see some of the wildlife during the cruise: we saw some seals and a fjordland crested penguin on the rocks along the water and our captain was able the bring the boat up quite close to the shore to get a closer view of them and allow people to take pictures. The captain also brought the boat up under a couple of the cascades/waterfalls that fall down the cliff faces along the fjord. While you can get really cool pictures when you are that close, you will definitely get wet from the spray if you are outside on the observation decks. But the captain gives a warning to the passengers in advance so they can get inside if they don’t want to get wet. It gets pretty windy once you exit the bay were the tour boats are docked so we definitely recommend bringing some layers of clothing, especially something water resistant if you plan on staying on the observation deck since, as mentioned previously, you will definitely get wet from the spray of the cascades/waterfalls. Also there was some complimentary coffee/tea and cookies: we almost forgot about it since we were too busy snapping pictures of the gorgeous mountains all around the fjord.

We had the best time! Our guide, Roger, provided an informative and well-humoured tour. We spotted a penguin, some seals and got close enough to a waterfall to get completely drenched! Complimentary tea and biscuits were a nice touch. Would thoroughly recommend.

The weather, scenery & wildlife were fantastic. Saw penguins & dolphins around the boat. The boat seemed quite full, although this was probably because everyone was outside. Plenty of room inside. Commentary was good but quite difficult to hear where we were sitting at the rear so didn't catch everything.

So glad we heeded other reviews and opted for the smaller vessel. avoided the bus loads herded onto the larger vessels. The day was overcast and some rain, but didn’t dampen things too much. Skipper gave some informative commentary along the way. The lovely young lady managing tea & coffee bar also doubled as a deckhand and was a pleasure to see her thoroughly enjoying her job. When the skipper approaches the waterfall and warns folks outside that they’re about to go through a car wash, heed his advice! It’s intense… and a hoot to watch those poor souls from inside.

Just awesome tour and tour guide. Very very knowledgeable. I just wish it lasted longer! The drive in and out are sketchy indeed but worth it for this brand.

Staff were kind enough to reschedule our trip to the following day when it was not going to be pouring rain. Really appreciate the accommodation and timely response to this request!

Milford Sound is very nice as was the boat. It was how ever advertised as a boutique experience, it was not. It was a smaller boat, but it was pretty crowded with people.
