Feast on song, drama, tradition, and divine seasonal kai (cuisine) within our forest Pā (village) blanketed by towering Tawa trees, its blazing bonfires, and forest-formed amphitheatre.
Te Pā Tū offers 3-hour evening events that change with each season of the maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar.
Across summer, Tū Te Rā celebrates an abundant harvest, and we explore concepts, rituals, and stories of ancient Māori warfare and peace.
Throughout winter, Tū Te Ihi marks promise heralded by the arrival of the Matariki star cluster which high and bright in winter skies, signalling the new lunar year – we share the energy and passion of this celebration.
Cultural knowledge unique to each season is shared from the outset – rituals, songs, stories and continue across the night. From the beginning too, we share local, seasonal kai - plentiful and delicious. Kai horotai (indigenous canapes) is followed by a torch lit walk to a lavish 3-course fusion feast.

Feast on song, drama, tradition, and divine seasonal kai (cuisine) within our forest Pā (village) –blanketed by towering Tawa trees, blazing bonfires, and forest-formed amphitheatre. These events change with each season of the maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar. Tū Te Rā – Summer Harvest Celebration (October - April): Across this lunar phase, the sun expresses optimal energy, the days are longer, and light nourishes the natural world. Tū Te Rā celebrates abundant harvest and explores concepts, rituals, and stories of ancient Māori warfare and peace. Tū Te Ihi - Winter Matariki Celebration (May - September): \ Tū Te Ihi includes the time in the earth’s cycle when Matariki stars are high and bright in winter skies. Te Ihi references the energy and passion stirred by the Matariki cluster and the promise they herald.

5.00This was a real highlight of our trip to Rotorua. The experience was fantastic from start to finish. The insights gained into the Māori culture was fascinating. We also loved how interactive the evening was - learning the Haka, traditional Māori games and music. The food was also exceptional. It is an experience that we will always remember.

5.00After two weeks of fabulous adventures and activities in New Zealand, my husband and I attended an evening of Māori culture, Te Pa Tu, and were completely blown away. It was easily the best thing we’ve done while we’ve been here. We were taught, entertained, and fed, and each part of the experience was fascinating, exciting, and ultimately, delicious. I cannot recommend this experience more highly. I’m sure it will remain one of the most memorable evenings of my life. I’m so grateful to the Māori family who performed and presented and shared their skills and knowledge with us.

4.00Interesting and informative. Quite expensive, especially if one has a glass of wine with the food, it's a lot extra. The experience is about 2 and 1/2 hours, we had pick up from our hotel as well. We were out of season, I can imagine it would be packed in during the summer holidays. The staff and the performance was very good. I'm happy to have seen it, don't need to see another one.

5.00What a beautiful experience learning about the Māori culture. From the introduction with the chosen chiefs (people from the tour), to the rotation through learning about various aspects of the Māori culture (games that were played, the Haka, etc.), to the shared dinner. Every bit of this experience was immersive, educational, and transformative. Love that it's a family sharing their culture. Highly recommend checking this out.

5.00Very educational, entertaining, and fun!! What I liked best was the fact that we interacted with our hosts and learned about the Māori history and culture. This is one talented family that cares about their guests. Dinner was outstanding. I have food allergies and they were very accommodating. Plus we ate via candlelight—such a beautiful experience all around!

5.00This was a highlight of an already incredible vacation. The people, the ceremonies, the lessons, and the food, were all unbelievably good. Everyone was so welcoming and excellent at what they did. We learned so much, and were honored to be included in it all.

2.006 weeks and this is our only bad experience. Save your money and drive to a scenic walk or view to get a feel for NZ culture, or speak to Maori living and working in the towns. You’ll learn a lot more about the culture, and feel more respect for them and their ancestral stories. Our Maori rafting guide did a much better job, without resorting to silly claps and chants. I don’t want to be disrespectful, but this group behaved like children this evening, and didn’t show much genuine pride or reverence for Maori tradition.
