Bayeux
Your Gentleman Sider (guide/driver) will meet you with his vintage sidecar at the pickup location of your choice, or at the parking lot of the Bayeux Battle of Normandy Museum, or at the Bayeux bus station.* He will help you gear up with helmets, gloves, and retro goggles before getting you comfortably settled in the sidecar. There will, of course, be stops along the way to take breaks and capture photos.
The Widerstandsnest 60 (WN60) was a German fortified position of the Atlantic Wall, located above Omaha Beach, near Colleville-sur-Mer. Built to control the beach and prevent any Allied landing, it included bunkers, trenches, and firing positions. On June 6, 1944, it was attacked and neutralized by the 1st Infantry Division, opening a crucial exit from the beach for the Allied advance. Today, its visible remains stand as a powerful reminder of the intensity of the D-Day fighting and the site’s strategic importance.

This was a 70th birthday surprise from my wife, daughter and son. I have just returned from the city of Caen in France where we toured Sword Beach. This was one of the beaches used by the British army on DDay.The reason for interest about this landing site was because my father landed here on the 6th June 1944.We booked a tour guide just for our family. Eric Le Doux-Turnbull was the tour guide he can be found on www.ddaylandingstour.com He picked us up at 10.00 am at our rented apartment where we made our way to our first stop. This was Pegasus Bridge where he gave us an insight into how the British took control of the bridge and held the bridge to allow the main force to be able to cross the Caen canal. There is a museum here which is well worth a visit. Cost 7euro per person. Next stop was Ranville cemetery after leaving here we stopped for a bite to eat. We then moved on to Sword Beach. There is another museum here which is housed in the German command tower. Eric was full of information and passionate about the tour. The whole tour was seven and half hours long. The whole family agreed that Eric gave us a great insight into what happed that day 1944.

The tour was very relaxing and with wind, a lovely experience. Thomas, our guide was warm, engaging and knowledgeable. One person is in the sidecar and the other, sitting behind the driver. Very little walking required and at 7pm it is a great evening tour after a long day. Book it and don’t worry…you will hav a wonderful time.
