Today’s hike leads past Ras Al-Feid and towards Ghbour Whedat, through some of the country’s wildest corners. Contouring the Sharah Mountains, we follow a trail comprised of smaller, connecting Bedouin shepherd paths. The bare peeks of black, rugged mountains overlooking the trail, and the precipitous drops of the canyons below make this part of the trek spectacular. Gradually climbing up the hills, you will uncover more spectacular views over the barren desert below. Then, as you proceed towards the wilderness campsite, the landscape slowly becomes softer, with mushroom-like rock formations lining the way. Al-Beidha
After yesterday’s very remote hike, we will see signs of increasing human habitation while approaching Little Petra today. Passing Bedouin camps, sheep pens, and small agricultural plots you can gain an impression of the living environment of part of Jordan’s population. We will also pass the first Nabataean ruins, including wine and olive presses, aqueducts, and other ancient water infrastructures. Finally, we will climb up through a canyon walled with soft sandstone rocks, and then down a narrow, steep flight of stairs into Little Petra. The site, also known as Siq al-Barid (Engl. the Cold Canyon), is believed by archaeologists to be a ‘suburb’ of Petra and was probably meant to house traders traveling along the Silk Road. After some time to explore, we’ll head on to our home for the night – hot showers are waiting! Overnight: Bedouin Camp near Little Petra Hiking Distance: 14Km Ascent: 610m Descent: 560m

Petra
After breakfast it's time to start your hike. Enter Petra via ‘The Back Door’ avoiding most of the tourists. Good tracks go pleasantly down Wadi Ghurab amidst sandstone mountains guarding the approaches to Petra. This way follows a Nabataean route out of the valley and skirting round the final mountain on a natural rock terrace which has been ‘improved’ for the safety of walkers. Even so, it still narrows slightly before reaching a hidden plateau high above the impressive chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. Just beyond, carved into the cliff face, ‘The Monastery’ suddenly comes into view, where there is a Bedouin café for refreshments if you would like. Nabataean steps then lead down into ancient Petra; through which the route goes before exiting past ‘The Treasury’ and though the famous ‘Petra Siq’ to the shops, cafés and hotels of Wadi Musa. Petra
After a relaxed breakfast, we leave the mountains of Petra behind and move on to Wadi Rum. Are you ready for a desert adventure?! We will meet our Bedouin hosts and set out on a 4×4 jeep safari to explore valleys and narrow gorges, discover ancient rock inscriptions, climb sand dunes and rock bridges, and generally enjoy the majestic desert landscape. At each step, you have the opportunity to hike, scramble and explore at your own pace. After viewing one of the most magical sunsets in the world, we’ll return to our camp for, dinner, an experience of the famous Bedouin hospitality, a night under the starlit sky, and – of course – countless cups of tea. Dead Sea
Today, we will leave the desert and proceed to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. You can spend some time floating in the salty waters, try out the ‘magical’ Dead Sea mud, relax by the pool, or pamper yourself with some spa treatments – the perfect cure if your legs are still tired and sore from all the hiking. In the late afternoon, we will hop on the bus for the last time, and follow the long, winding road up to Amman – to return to where the adventure began. Overnight: Hotel in Amman

My friends and I did the 5-day hike from Dana Reserve to Petra with the incredible guide Motaz Zghoul and I can’t say enough good things about it! The website and email communication was very comprehensive so I felt prepared travelling to Jordan and knowing what to expect and bring. The online itinerary matched what we did each day, expect when we had 1 rainy day and we needed to change our trail slightly to account for potential flooding. Our guide Motaz was excellent. So knowledgeable about the area, history, and survival skills! I felt so safe on this hike and completely trusted him. The rest of the support team were also amazing. I couldn’t believe the delicious food that they were able to make over the fire! There was plenty to go around and something different every meal. It also felt quite luxurious to get to our campsite and have all the tents made up and tea ready for us every day. Even though it was pretty chilly at night (be prepared!), the tents, sleeping pads and blankets they provided were pretty cozy. I suggest bringing your own sleeping bag and travel pillow if you want to be extra comfortable. I highly recommend Experience Jordan, especially if you want to hike the Jordan Trail in this region. Enjoy!

The Dana Biosphere Reserve to Petra Trek, with additional visits to Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea, were superbly organised by Experience Jordan Adventures, from initial pick up at Amman Airport to final drop off at the end of the trip, all undertaken without any hitches or problems. The trip was guided by Motaz Zghool, who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in leading groups across this beautiful country. Motaz and his team ensured we were well looked after and informed at all times, and the camps and food they prepared for us each day were fantastic, especially considering the desert terrain we trekked in. Dana, Petra and Wadi Rum are spectacular locations to visit, and the trekking part of the trip is achievable by anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. A fantastic trip in a fantastic country.

Motaz has a wealth of knowledge about Jordan and was able to show us the best parts of this fabulous country. I did the 5 day hike Dana to Petra, and it was excellent! Motaz was an excellent guide. Even in December season, the views were impressive and the landscape was gorgeous. The food was high quality and a lot of it. Motaz and the team were always ready with a good story, hot cup of tea, campfire, a shared laugh, and encouragement on the uphill sections. Thank you!

This hike is incredible! It's challenging if unfit but super worth it - the views and the food are amazing. Our guide (Motaz Zghoul) is a man with a true love for his craft and the people under his care - we felt safe and supported in his hands the whole way through. It was also extremely informative and Motaz is such a good story teller that you stay engaged even when exhausted. The group size is perfect and you end up with a really tight-knit family feeling with laughs around the campfire. Big love for everyone involved.

After such an amazing 4-day hike to the ancient city of Petra and the tours to Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea, it's sad to say goodbye to many new friends and great tour guide, Motaz. He made our trip such fun, so interesting with many stories, organised everything so well and took care of everyone with passion. The rugged beauty of the country and friendliness of the people will be lovely memories for many years. "Shukra".

This was one of the best guided hiking tours I’ve ever done. Everything was very well-organized and the group size was perfect. The route for the trek is fantastic as it cuts through a number of different environments, so there was something new every day. The environments and of course, Petra and Wadi Rum, were beyond expectations. The support team - Audeh, Muhammad, Hussain and of course, Merzouka (the donkey) - were fantastic and Motaz may be the best trekking guide bar none. He was very helpful, funny, informative and just an all-round brilliant guy. Would come back to Jordan to hike with him again.

Our tour was truly remarkable, mainly due to our guide Motaz. He is an exceptionally kind and authentic person — someone who naturally turns a group of strangers into a real team (and even family!). While he leads with calm and confidence, he is also freakin funny and has a great sense for people and their needs. Even when we had non-ideal weather, including rain and the risk of flooding, he handled everything in a way that made everyone feel safe at all times. As I lived in the Middle East for years working as a journalist, I know that Motaz is exceeding the local standards by miles. His knowledge of Jordan is truly impressive. Whether it was archaeology, history, geology, make up tips (!!!) or everyday cultural questions, he always had clear and interesting answers. Motaz meets people at eye level, and keeps the group focused while still making the experience enjoyable. He’s clearly made for leading hiking and exploration trips in Jordan. Highly recommended. Ask for him specifically.
