Al-Beidha
After yesterday’s very remote hike, we will see signs of increasing human habitation while approaching Little Petra today. Passing Bedouin camps, sheep pens, and small agricultural plots you can gain an impression of the living environment of part of Jordan’s population. We will also pass the first Nabataean ruins, including wine and olive presses, aqueducts, and other ancient water infrastructures. Finally, we will climb up through a canyon walled with soft sandstone rocks, and then down a narrow, steep flight of stairs into Little Petra. The site, also known as Siq al-Barid (Engl. the Cold Canyon), is believed by archaeologists to be a ‘suburb’ of Petra and was probably meant to house traders traveling along the Silk Road. After some time to explore, we’ll head on to our home for the night – hot showers are waiting! Overnight: Bedouin Camp near Little Petra Hiking Distance: 14Km Ascent: 610m Descent: 560m

Petra
After breakfast it's time to start your hike. Enter Petra via ‘The Back Door’ avoiding most of the tourists. Good tracks go pleasantly down Wadi Ghurab amidst sandstone mountains guarding the approaches to Petra. This way follows a Nabataean route out of the valley and skirting round the final mountain on a natural rock terrace which has been ‘improved’ for the safety of walkers. Even so, it still narrows slightly before reaching a hidden plateau high above the impressive chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. Just beyond, carved into the cliff face, ‘The Monastery’ suddenly comes into view, where there is a Bedouin café for refreshments if you would like. Nabataean steps then lead down into ancient Petra; through which the route goes before exiting past ‘The Treasury’ and though the famous ‘Petra Siq’ to the shops, cafés and hotels of Wadi Musa. After a relaxed breakfast, we leave the mountains of Petra behind and move on to Wadi Rum. Are you ready for a desert adventure?! We will meet our Bedouin hosts and set out on a 4×4 jeep safari to explore valleys and narrow gorges, discover ancient rock inscriptions, climb sand dunes and rock bridges, and generally enjoy the majestic desert landscape. At each step, you have the opportunity to hike, scramble and explore at your own pace. After viewing one of the most magical sunsets in the world, we’ll return to our camp for, dinner, an experience of the famous Bedouin hospitality, a night under the starlit sky, and – of course – countless cups of tea. Today, we will leave the desert and proceed to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. You can spend some time floating in the salty waters, try out the ‘magical’ Dead Sea mud, relax by the pool, or pamper yourself with some spa treatments – the perfect cure if your legs are still tired and sore from all the hiking. In the late afternoon, we will hop on the bus for the last time, and follow the long, winding road up to Amman – to return to where the adventure began. Overnight: Hotel in Amman

We hiked through remote mountains, crossed wide open terrain, and visited historical sites. What made the journey special was not only what we saw, but how these places were brought to life through stories, context, and shared experience. Our guide, Furat Mai, played a central role in that. Through daily conversations along the trail and beside the campfire, I gained a much deeper understanding of rich history and culture as well as the way local communities live their everyday lives. His passion for sharing knowledge, combined with openness and respect, turned trekking into meaningful learning experiences. Equally memorable was the hospitality of the Bedouin support team arranged by the company. Their warmth and generosity were constant there. During long hikes, our local guide would stop to make tea for us, turning simple rest breaks into moments of connection. At other times, he demonstrated how gunpowder and organic soap could be made using natural materials picked up along the trail. These unscripted moments offered rare insight into a fascinating heritage and daily life, and made the experience feel deeply authentic. Evenings spent camping under the open sky became some of my favorite moments of the trip. Sharing delicious dinners prepared by the Bedouin team, surrounded by silence and stars, created a sense of calm and camaraderie that is hard to describe and even harder to forget. One unforgettable highlight was the Jeep ride through Wadi Rum. Moving through the vast desert as a group, with endless horizons stretching in every direction, I felt an overwhelming sense of space and scale. At times it felt like flying through a movie set; at others, like landing on another planet. The immensity and openness of the landscape left a lasting impression on all of us. Looking back, I feel genuinely fortunate to have been part of this journey. It combined physical challenge with cultural depth, thoughtful guiding, and remarkable hospitality. I would wholeheartedly recommend trips planned and provided by Experience Jordan Adventures to anyone seeking an adventure that is both enriching and unforgettable. Yallah—let’s go.

I really enjoyed this tour by Experience Jordan Adventures. The hiking was challenging but rewarding. The desert scenery was spectacular and when we finally arrived into Petra we entered through a sparsely used back door and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. From the moment we arrived our hosts took excellent care of us; scheduling was flawless and every detail was addressed. Even when rain and winds required us to modify plans, our hosts readjusted on the fly to create a seamless and memorable trip. And the legendary hospitality of our Bedouin hosts made every evening camping outdoors, feel like an evening at home with friends. Special thanks to our guide Motaz Zghoul - Motaz is fun, passionate, Incredibly knowledgeable and continuously went the extra mile to ensure we were safe, well cared for and having fun. I cannot recommend this trip enough. Come to Jordan and you will have the time of your life

My Jordan experience was amazing and unforgettable thanks to our outstanding guide, Motaz Zghoul. Every step of our hiking journey was thoughtfully taken care of by Motaz. He did an excellent job showing us the beautiful landscapes of his country - from semi-desert to glorious Wadi Rum desert and the Dead Sea. Motaz always knew the best routes to take to make the views truly breathtaking. We even got to see Petra’s most beautiful Treasury building from above - such a unique experience! Motaz’s warm and loving nature made us feel genuinely welcomed. Thank you, Motaz. You and your country will forever be in my heart!

Our group of 10 embarked on an inspiring journey, trekking from Dana to Petra, followed by tours of Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea. Nour from Experience Jordan meticulously managed all logistics, including packing lists, airport transfers, guides, accommodations, camps, and additional day trips. Our main guide, Furat, a passionate and knowledgeable young man, looked after us throughout the 10-day adventure. Furat introduced us to Jordan's stunning natural landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture during the trek and visits to ancient ruins. Our local guide, Yahya, added to the experience with folk songs, herbal tea preparations, soap-making demonstrations using wildflowers, and even 'gunpowder' making from donkey dung. We also had excellent camp supports to handle our luggage transfers and prepare delicious meals. We left Jordan with hearts full of unforgettable memories. Highly recommended.

We just finished an amazing trip that was organized by Experience Jordan. We weren’t sure which tour company to book with and chose EJ based on reviews and that they were locally operated. They were also the most responsive of the companies that I contacted when planning the trip. Dania was very helpful in the office guiding us and helping us book the trip. When we arrived we were well prepared and our guide Abdullah was waiting for us at the airport. Abdullah was one of the best guides we have ever had on any trip we have ever done anywhere in the world. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the local history and also every sight we visited. He also was just a great human being and really helped take care of us. We booked a private trip with our family of six and he was great with our kids (ages 12,16,18 and 19). He just sensed when to share information on the locations and when to let the kids just explore. We also had a few unexpected adjustments from our planned itinerary which Abdullah navigated masterfully. A big storm system arrived after starting our trip with heavy rain and 30mph winds. Abdullah wisely adjusted a plan B and moved us from camping to a nice hotel for two nights. We still go out as best we could with the weather and Abdullah adjusted it all on fly. Our youngest son also had an unexpected medical emergency that occurred. Bit an accident just some internal issues that turned out to be a time sensitive emergency. Abdullah was incredibly helpful and decisive and immediately arranged a transport to a clinic and then from there came in the ambulance to a hospital with my oldest son and I. He ended up needing a minor emergency surgery. Abdullah helped coordinate everything with the doctors, paying them bill, getting antibiotics at the pharmacy etc. Thanks to his help everything turned out fine and we continued our trip. He also arranged for our son who was in the mend to have some alternative adaptations including a club car to Petra while the rest of our family hiked in. Little Petra, Petra, Wadi Rum and touring Amman were all spectacular. Even with the medical history this was one of the best trips our family had done together. Everyone we met from doctors to camp and hotel hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The scenery and archeological sites were spectacular. If you go see if you can request Abdullah - the worlds best guide!

From the moment our group met our guide, Motaz Ogla Zghool, we knew we were in great hands. High rains caused some disruption to the route but Motaz and the Experience Jordan team did an incredible job of re-arranging things to ensure we had an incredible hiking experience. His knowledge, calmness and good nature ensured the group of 15 gelled together beautifully. The accommodations were comfortable and the little extra touches they added around the campsite will be remembered forever. It was great to see that the company utilised and supported many other local service providers from the Bedouin communities to add to the immersion experience of the tour. The hiking itself was breathtaking and for a number of days, besides our own group, we only encountered local communities. Lunch stops and side trips for bonus views were thoughtfully considered with everything coming together to deliver an adventure which exceeded our expectations.

Had an absolutely amazing time with Jordan Experience on this tour. We originally booked the 5 day version but decided to extend and stay with the group for another few days for ease, cost and because we loved the new friends we had made. The tour feels split into a few sections. The “hiking section” is the first 5 days. We sadly had extreme weather meaning we couldn’t hike day 1 and had to do an alternate hike day 2. Our guide and group were amazing, doing everything they could to make the days still enjoyable for us. By day 3 we were back on the plan. Day 3 the fun began, we had an incredible hike with our fantastic tour guide Motaz explaining things along the way. For extra company we had a kind Bedouin donkey man, Omar the police man and extra Bedouin walkers. We were fed, treated, tea’d and watered constantly. Night 3 was my favourite. A simple camp with a fire on the edge of the Petra area with the rock formations lit up around us with lanterns. Truly magical. Day 4 we hiked into little Petra, again getting lots of information, stories and treats from Motaz along the way. But day 5 was my highlight of the whole trip. We woke up early to hike around the main part of Petra. Again Motaz stopped regularly to explain what we could see. He took us on the less travelled routes around Petra to see the truly incredible views. If you have a longer trip and feet can take it. I would consider staying in Petra (wadi Musa) an extra day. 1 day isn’t enough to see it all. I also recommend getting a Turkish bath in Wadi Musa after a few days camping. The tour then drives down to wadi rum which was beautiful. And again, personally if I had more time I’d stay longer and hike to the tallest mountain for the view and get a guide to take us on some scrambling hikes. (We are climbers so wouldn’t recommend this for everyone) Seeing the beautiful sunrises, sunsets and stars depends on weather, cloud and moon. So consider your travel dates if this is important to you. Onto a final day in Dead Sea to experience the mud and floating then back to Amman. I couldn’t have asked for a better time with Jordan experience and Motaz. He really did everything he could to make the trip amazing, including retrieving lost property from previous accommodations and helping with awkward requests. He’s funny, kind and really knows his stuff. He’s not just giving you a few bullet points, he truly knows about the country, culture, history, food, politics, archeology etc. he’s spent time getting to know all of this. (Eg he joined and archeology trip for ~40days before). As a group, our questions were endless, from learning about Jordan to being asked “what time is breakfast” for the 14th time, he always answered our questions with a smile. The other jordinian people we met were also amazing. It’s true about the hospitality. Everyone is kind and welcoming. Even when we don’t speak the same language you can see the care in people’s eyes. I also felt constantly safe. Not just because we had a policeman with us for the wildest parts of our trip. But the country itself feels safe. Jordan seems to have done a lot to stay out of all the troubles of surrounding countries, so if you’re hesitating coming due to safety, I promise as of Jan 2026 it’s safe and you don’t need to worry, book the trip. Beyond just having a fun time, I’ve gained a new knowledge and perspective of Jordan which I’ll carry forward with me. Thanks again to Jordan experience. Thanks double to Motaz and the other kind Jordanian people who made our tour possible. I recommend this highly. So much a friend of mine is likely coming in April! Hope we meet again :) Now it’s time for another 4 days exploring Amman and the north without the tour group, but with the friends we made. * we didn’t go to aqaba so if you want beach chill time, or Red Sea snorkelling/diving stay longer!

I had an outstanding trekking experience in Jordan with Motaz Zghoul, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. From the very beginning, Motaz demonstrated exceptional professionalism, kindness, and deep knowledge of the region. His understanding of the landscape, history, and local culture truly enriched the entire journey and made each day both informative and memorable. What really sets Motaz apart is how deeply he cares about his guests. He consistently went above and beyond to ensure everyone felt safe, supported, and comfortable at all times. Whether adjusting the pace, checking in on how we were feeling, or offering encouragement along challenging sections, his attention and thoughtfulness never went unnoticed. I always felt secure and well looked after under his guidance. Motaz’s passion for his work and for Jordan is clear in everything he does. He is an incredible asset to his profession and a guide who genuinely elevates the trekking experience.
