This very special tour takes you inside an exquisite Mdina palazzo to reveal strange stories from its fascinating past.
The evening will begin on the streets of Mdina before our small group enters the palazzo, where you'll hear the legend of the French soldier who is said to have been thrown from its balcony by hordes of Maltese rebels.
You'll be able to touch a piece of the True Cross, upon which Jesus Christ was crucified, as certified by the Pope and found in the palazzo's private chapel.
You'll also see how slaves were kept close to the mistress of the house, and learn why a terrible gambler, the son of a nun, had to shrink the palazzo in size.
The tour will eventually reach the palazzo's roof which has a superb view of Mdina. Drinks will then be served either on the roof or in the drawing room.
This event is part of the Behind Closed Doors series by Dark Malta Tours, taking you into fascinating places to experience their dark histories.

We will be walking through the old city of Mdina before entering one of its best-preserved palazzos for the main part of the tour.

5.00Absolutely lovely Tour by Mario Cacciatolo in Mdina,who is not only knowledgeable but also a very good story teller. I enjoyed every minute of the one and half hour/two hour tour starting with a walk around Mdina's narrow streets with Mario narrating about past historical events which probably even locals are not aware of. The Tour reaches its peak in a privately owned Palazzo with a rich history and also a rich array of artefacts with Mario together with the owners explaining the history of the building and as advertised even telling Stories of a Strange nature. The Tour is not at all tiring and I highly recommend it to people who love a bit of history mixed with fascinating stories of a distant past which you won't find in text books. Besides that it's a unique opportunity to visit a true gem of a typical Maltese Palazzo which normally is not open to the Public. Good job by Dark Malta Tours and keep up the good work ,Mario 🙏👍

5.00We’ve now done three tours with Dark Malta Tours — Witchcraft & Blood in Birgu (June 2024), Stories of the Strange in Valletta (September 2025), and Dark Tales in an Mdina Palazzo (October 2025). Every single one was outstanding. Mario is incredibly knowledgeable, articulate, and very entertaining. He brings Malta’s darker history and legends to life with fascinating detail and great storytelling. Each tour was unique and full of surprising stories that you won’t find in regular guidebooks. We enjoyed these tours so much that we keep coming back for more. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a different and memorable experience in Malta!

5.00One of the best tours that I have ever taken and I’ve done a few. Mario is very informative and engaging. A unique opportunity to enter a family owned palazzo in Mdina with all its history. Mario was really friendly and helpful and I would highly recommend this tour.

5.00Thanks again to Mario for a fantastic tour that brings Malta’s rich history to life. The palazzo and the family were lovely and so welcoming. I’ve always wondered what the inside of a historic Mdina home looked like, and I thoroughly enjoyed everything, from the grand entrance to the rooftop views. The snippets of history told by a Master storyteller, Mario, and delivered with electric wit are what make Dark Malta Tours my absolute favourite among all the tours I’ve taken around the world. I’m already looking forward to the next one!
