This 4.5 hour Daufuskie Island trip provides a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of Lowcountry history on the undeveloped side of the island. Learn the rich history of the Native Americans, European settlers, the cotton trade, and the Gullah culture. We encourage you to wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring water, snacks, and sunscreen.

Daufuskie Island

It begins with a boat ride from Shelter Cove Marina to the back side of Daufuskie Island. The ride is an important part of the tour! Along the way we will stop for dolphins and other wildlife, plus view and discuss the sites on Daufuskie and the neighboring islands that are best seen from the water. Once on Daufuskie, you'll get on golf carts and take a tour of the historic, undeveloped side of the island. We stop at all of the significant historic sites and artisan shops of Daufuskie.

This experience was amazing! During the boat ride our captain Pete had a vast amount of knowledge about oysters, dolphins, marshes and the area we were traveling through. The island was so interesting filled with such history and once again captain pete had so much to offer! I would definitely recommend this!

Great day on the water with Captain Pete! His knowledge, dry wit and sense of humor made for a fun afternoon. We saw dolphin, eagles, woodstorks, egrets and more! We learned so much about the Gulla culture and history. Highly recommend!

Beautiful, unique, and historic place. I come from an island on the North Carolina coast and have toured islands from Maine to Florida. Good guide narration, however I researched the island before going. Tour could have covered more areas on island for more sightseeing, and a more comprehensive overall historical, cultural, and geographic experience. etc. I don't consider it complete an island tour as it could have been. Cold and windy on boat. Plastic covers could have been pulled down for more protection making for a more enjoyable ride.

Captains Pete and Kelly were fantastic guides. They not only were very much aware of our safely they taught us so much about Daufuskie island and the people who live there and their history! Views were beautiful and we loved meeting some of the people who live there now. A unique experience.

Although the weather was not great, we had a wonderful boat ride about 90 minutes to Daufuskie Island. Along the way, we got lots of good information about the islands and the surrounding area. Once we got on the island, we separated into golf carts and visited about a half a dozen stops. Captain Pete along w Captains Kelly and Dave were fantastic. I would highly recommend if you were interested in learning about the history of the island and the local culture.

Very informative. Great tour guide. You can feel the dedication and advocacy for the local culture from Captain Pete. Really felt like we got a sense of the culture and history of this island.

Our Captain, Andy, was a wealth of knowledge throughout the entire excursion- thoroughly enjoyed all the history of the area! Great stops along the way- highly recommended this tour!

Dean Hager was excellent! Great history lesson, humor and fun learning about HHI and Daufuskie Island! The whole family had lots of fun and the golf cart ride was a bonus.
