One of the main reasons to visit the Shahrisabz is to see the mountain pass and the rural area of Uzbekistan. The road starts with the vineyards, fruit trees, vegetables and son. Slowly the elevation will change and the fields will be replaced by hills and eventually by Rocky Mountains. The “Teshik Tosh” or “Rock with the Hole” is the first stop to explore the incredible work made by mother nature. The legendary movie “Apachen” starring the famous Gojko Mitic was shot at the same location because of the resemblance with the American Southwest prairie.

The Palace Complex of Ak-Saray
Ak Saray Palace (White Palace). The dimensions of the building can be perceived when looking at the gate towers: the two towers were 50 m high and had an arch with a span of 22 m. The buildings were destroyed in the 16th cent. by order of the ruler of Bukhara, Abdullah Khan.
Kok-Gumbaz Mosque
In 1435, the Kok-Gumbaz mosque (the “Blue Dome”) was built opposite the Kulyal's mausoleum and on the same axis. The inscription on the portal says about its construction by Ulugbek on behalf of his father Shah Rukh. It played the role of the Juma Mosque, that is, the Friday Cathedral Mosque of Shahrisabz.

3.00There are 2 options, one is purely a driver, the other a guide. I chose the latter which fee is higher. The driver who drove us to the scenic spot of Shahrisabz does not speak English and didn't introduce or provide any tourist information during the ride. Our car (BYD) is good modern and cozy. After arriving at the main attraction of the trip which is beautiful, there was a English speaking guide.

1.00The guide didn’t speak 1 word English, he had to use google translate and even then he didn’t know much about the history etc What a waste of time Ensure your guide speaks English otherwise do not book this tour

1.00The climate was extremely hot and the AC in the car was very bad. The driver switched off the AC many times. If the trip started in the afternoon and ended by sunset it would have been better as the days are very very hot and we were boiling inside the car. The driver was a very good man and he was very courteous. Only issue is that he doesn't speak English.

1.00The whole "tour" consists in a Russian speaking taxi driver coming to pick you up from your hotel and driving you to Shahrisabz. You can find something WAY cheaper just stopping a taxi driver in Samarkand by yourself. We were supposed to have a tour in English and all we got was this old guy who did not understand a word. Avoid this!

5.00The service offered is just a driver. He could give some basic instructions in English. The drive took about 2 hours one way, went through a beautiful landscape, and included some interesting photo stops. The sights in Shahrisabz are not as spectacular as at other places in Uzbekistan but still worth seeing. For me, it was a relaxing and enjoyable trip before my flight back to Europe the next day.
I am not happy with this place because of season.

3.00We went there on August 2019. This season is not okay for this place. Very hot weather in this time and no better view.
