The current church was built in 1961 under Emperor Haile Selassie. Museum: Explore the monastery's museum, which houses ancient religious artifacts, manuscripts, crosses, and ceremonial clothes. I had a wonderful experience visiting Debre Libanos Monastery, one of the most spiritual and historic places in Ethiopia. The setting is breathtaking, with the church surrounded by stunning mountain landscapes and the famous Portuguese Bridge nearby. Inside, the monastery holds deep religious significance, and the atmosphere is very peaceful. Our guide explained the rich history of the site, which made the visit even more meaningful. We also enjoyed the scenic views of the gorge and the chance to meet some of the monks. It is a perfect day trip from Addis Ababa if you want to combine culture, history, and nature. I highly recommend visiting Debre Libanos for anyone looking to experience the spiritual and natural beauty of Ethiopia.
