Berat is one of the oldest towns in the region, founded back in the ancient ages. After some troublesome history and changes of the name, the city was finally called “Beligrad” – “The White City” (the current name is just the derivative of it). It’s pretty obvious where it comes from as the Old Town of Berat is full of white houses, all of them facing the river. Beratis called also “the city of thousands of windows”
After Berat, it is time to go to Belsh where we are going to taste raki with saffron. It is a unique raki where we can find only in Belsh. This town is known also for 85 lakes. Belushi is like Toscana but in the Albanian version

Very interesting city, the two opposing neighborhoods very nice to visit, I would say that the state for the conservation part of the cultural heritage is absent, mainly within the walls of the castle. Near the center they built a huge hotel that is a disgrace to the city.
