Wonchi Crater Lake is 155 km west of Addis Ababa, between Ambo and Welliso. An extinct volcano (the top of which is 3380m above sea level) the crater contains a large lake, hot mineral springs, waterfalls and beautiful valleys and farmland there is an old monastery with a church is situated on one of the lake islands. We will drive about 155 km Leave the rush of Addis Ababa behind and retreat to the peace of Wonchi Crater lake and village. Once we arrive, we will either ride Horse or take 4 km hike for one and half up to two hours. Start at the rim of the crater from Kala about 3300m above sea level. While passing the trail have a beautiful views and waterfalls along the way, from the shore of the lake taking a boat to the small island monastery church of Deber Kirkos, an old historical church. ITINERARY - We will meet in the lobby of the Ghion Hotel, at 7:10 AM and the drop will be at the Ghion or your place if it not far. - start trekking or Horse Riding while enjoying the beautiful scenery - Boat Trip to lake Island where we found historical church Wonchi tour is optional for people to stay overnight. *** Back the next day if you booked for two days or overnight stay at Negash Lodge / Weliso

5.00Our host Beki was brilliant, the tour was easy to set up and communication throughout was impeccable. We were picked up on time and driven out of Addis to Waliso where we ate breakfast and drank some local coffee (very tasty!). After breakfast it was on to Wenchi where we picked up a local guide (included in the tour price) who was very friendly and welcoming. The views over Crater Lake from the viewpoint were outstanding - definitely something you need to see for yourself. After taking a load of photos we took a short (but steep!) trek down to the valley to take in the natural hot springs and waterfall. Much needed leg relief was taken care of by a pony trek through the scenic valley. Then it was on to a short boat ride to the island to see the monastery followed by lunch by the lakeside. Beki was a very knowledgeable and informative host and both he and the driver were very accommodating of our security requirements. We genuinely cannot recommend this tour highly enough!

5.00Wonderful tour with a hike in the mountain doen de lake and a beautiful excursion by boat with the people of the lake, very keen and committed with the preservation of the environment. The guide was well informed about every detail. We aldo visited the wineyards and had a nice wine tasting.
