Since the area doesn't have good restaurants and we do not have a lunch stop, you should get some snacks not to feel too hungry and uncomfortable. And next, we go to a salty lake, where we have an outstanding possibility to take some nice pictures. The day trip to the rainbow mountains with Tato was amazing! I really enjoyed the scenic hike through the valley and Tato had a lot of interesting information for us. It was the first tour I did that actually included some hiking and where wouldn’t just go everywhere by car. I really liked that and I would love to do more tours like this one. The drive was very smooth and I felt very safe the whole time. The views from the car while going through these just scarcely inhabited landscapes was breathtaking!

The monastery is perfectly located on the way from Tbilisi to Sighnaghi and is halfway there. The Rainbow Mountains and the landscape in general are very beautiful, and the monastery itself is, of course, as well.

Nika was a lovely host on this awe inspiring hike in the Rainbow mountains. He was friendly, caring, and very informative throughout. The striations in these mountains are beautiful to behold, and so unique. The David Gareja cave monastery, too, was so magnificent to behold. I highly recommend this tour, and in Nika’s highly competent hands you can’t go wrong!

It was a great trip. Rainbow mountains and the David Gareija complex were very cool to look at and the drive there was already super interesting. Our guide Nika was wonderful and explained everything with patience.

What a beautiful day! We had a wonderful excursion through magnificent landscapes to the monastery. Our tour guide Alex accompanied us very skillfully. He created a relaxed atmosphere and paid attention to all participants. He provided us with a lot of knowledge and answered questions on all possible topics. The first stop at a supermarket was very practical to stock up for the day, even with ready-made meals at the counter, as there would only be a kiosk for coffee and water at the monastery later on. At this time of year, everything was green and the vast meadows of the steppe looked dreamlike, there were many special flowers and plants to discover. The lake looked very beautiful in this setting, the short photo stop was worth it to capture nature, especially since a herd of sheep was very close and the shepherd rode around the lake picturesque on his horse. High up in the air, a group of lammergeiers could be seen! At the monastery, we first hiked a round through the hills to get to know the sediments of the rainbow mountains. Here too, Alex was able to tell us some interesting facts. Shoes with tread on the soles are recommended, but the hike is easy. The monastery/church itself and the caves can be quickly viewed but are interesting. Alex explained the history to us well. Afterward, we had a picnic at a beautiful spot further up, which we had to climb to. The group was asked if they wanted that. The path led past the Georgian border soldiers who monitor the border to Azerbaijan here. The return trip was relaxed; the driver brought us back quickly and safely.

I highly recommend this tour. Alexandre , our tour guide, is very good in English and very interactive. He let us asked questions instead of just giving us lecture about the place. He gave us wonderful recommendation for restaurants in Tbilisi as well. When I had a hard time going down, he assisted me and shared the time he was also afraid of slopes. So as a traveler, it gave me comfort instead of shame for being so fearful. The tour is very organised and on time. The only suggestiom I have is to give us more time in the rainbow mountain peak. The monastery is also very interesting especially its medieval architecture. We ended at four pm which was one hour early for the expected time. It was cloudy and rainy so I understand we have to cut short. But overall, no complain and I only want to praise our guide Alexande for job well done.

Beautiful trip! Best part was lunch in the highest cave, looking over monastery and rainbow mountains right next to the boarder of Azerbaijan! Thanks to guide Alex for giving a tour and answering to all of our questions!
