Discover the history of Munich through its glorious dead on this guided small-group tour of the Alter Sudfriedhof (Old South Cemetery). Dating back to 1563, the Alter Sudfriedhof is the final resting place of some of the city's most prominent historical figures. As you take in its serene ambience, you'll unearth stories of the lives (and deaths) of the people who helped to shape modern-day Munich, as well as tales of the macabre including: the Plague, torture and execution, political revolts, WWII, tragic accidents, and more. Yes, we even have a few ghost stories to share along the way as well. After your visit to the land of the dead, celebrate life and live deliciously with a stroll through the trendy Glockenbachviertel neighbourhood. Pass by lively cafes and boutiques before visiting the city's best chocolate shop where you will indulge is a hot drinking chocolate of the gods. This tour begins and ends at Munich's 14th century gate, Sendlinger Tor.

Begin your journey into the deathly netherworld at this early 14th century city gate. Uncover the dark and bloody secrets leading earning it the nickname of Devil's Gate. You will also visit a memorial dedicated to those who have died from a deadly virus.

This tour was amazing! Katrina was so informative and kept the tone humorous and lively. The hot chocolate was delicious as well. I would recommend to anyone who plans on visiting Munich!

I absolutely loved this tour!! Our guide was exceptional, knowledgeable, genuinely curious, and clearly passionate about the history of this cemetery and its connection to the city of Munich. What really made the tour special, though, was the atmosphere. It felt like walking through history with a friend who just happens to know everything, and is excited to share it. We even made some new exciting discoveries together!! ;) The best tour I’ve experienced this year. Fully recommend! PS. Trust Katrina's hot chocolate recommendations! Truly the best hot chocolate ever!

Wonderful tour! Katrina clearly has a passion for history and we learned so much about the cemetery. It was really beautiful to walk around and we loved hearing about the different prominent graves (including some ghost stories)! As a bonus, we spent some time feeding the cute squirrels that were running around. Then we drank what was probably the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had! Can’t recommend enough. This was a big highlight of our trip. Thank you Katrina!

Loved this tour! Katrina was such a fun tour guide and was very knowledgeable about the cemetery, its history, and who was buried there. The tour had a great mix of Munich history, spooky stories, and some free time to wander the beautiful cemetery. And we fed some squirrels! Plus the hot chocolate from the chocolate shop was fantastic! We never would have found that shop without the tour. I highly recommend this tour!

Such a great combination - death, history, a beautiful setting and decadent chocolate! Katrina was very knowledgeable about the cemetery, its history, its inhabitants and some theories about a certain king’s death, and tailored the tour to our group’s interests.

Our guide Katrina was great. She was very energetic and knowledgeable about the history of Munich and the cemetery. It was really a wonderful experience strolling through the grounds and listening to her commentary. I would highly recommend the tour for those interested in the history of Munich and it's Bavarian roots.

Katrina, our tour hosts, was exceptional. Her commentary was lively and engaging and you could tell that she was really passionate about the history of Munich and the cemetery. Our group was small so you felt like you were on a walk with a friend; albeit a very smart friend. She went beyond expectation, not just giving us a lunch recommendation, but showing us where the venue was. We couldn't have been more pleased with the tour and the information that she provided.
10/10 would recommend!

We loved our guide and the cemetery was beautiful! Super informative and great for history buffs! Our guide answered all questions and was easy to follow along with! Would definitely recommend. It was a hot day so we got ice cream instead and we were able to chat with our guide about traveling and she even gave us some great local recommendations!

This was an amazing fun and insightful tour that I’m very glad I got to go on, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer pretty much most of my long list of questions. We went on a very hot day so ended up getting ice cream, which was amazing. Me and my girlfriend also went to one of her recommendations for a museum, and we had an absolutely amazing time. Highly recommend!! If you love history and great recommendations and good sweet treats this is a must when in Munich

It was a wonderful and interesting tour. We heard many stories about important people in Munich, and there were also a few scary ones. The tour guide was super nice, and we had a lot of fun. The hot chocolate was delicious, and there was something for every taste (even vegan). Highly recommended.
