Discover the history of Munich through its glorious dead on this guided small-group tour of the Alter Sudfriedhof (Old South Cemetery). Dating back to 1563, the Alter Sudfriedhof is the final resting place of some of the city's most prominent historical figures. As you take in its serene ambience, you'll unearth stories of the lives (and deaths) of the people who helped to shape modern-day Munich, as well as tales of the macabre including: the Plague, torture and execution, political revolts, WWII, tragic accidents, and more. Yes, we even have a few ghost stories to share along the way as well. After your visit to the land of the dead, celebrate life and live deliciously with a stroll through the trendy Glockenbachviertel neighbourhood. Pass by lively cafes and boutiques before visiting the city's best chocolate shop where you will indulge is a hot drinking chocolate of the gods. This tour begins and ends at Munich's 14th century gate, Sendlinger Tor.

The Death and Chocolate Walking Cemetery Tour was a delight from start to finish! The combination of rich local history, fascinating cemetery lore, and delicious hot chocolate made this experience unique. Katrina was engaging, knowledgeable, and personable. The pacing of the tour was perfect and never felt rushed. We look forward to booking another tour with Katrina!

We really enjoyed this walking tour of Munich’s Old South Cemetery. Our guide was incredibly informative and brought the history of the area to life with engaging stories and thoughtful explanations. It was fascinating to learn so much about the people and events connected to this unique place. We also loved the cozy break for a sit‑down hot chocolate at the boutique—it was the perfect warm and comforting way to wrap up the tour. Highly recommend!

This was a different Munich tour compared to other tours around the Marienplatz and just what we wanted. The neighbourhood was a short stroll from the Viktualmarkt. A bonus was we spotted numerous interesting looking cafes and restaurants. That alone is a good reason to go back. The tour that focuses on the people and history of the old South Cemetry was quirky, interesting and informative. Our guide Katrina was a friendly and knowledgeable host. And her recommendation for the best hot chocolate to finish the tour was spot on. Would definitely book another BlackBook Tour again next time we’re in Munich.

A unique way to learn about the history of Munich while surrounded by the final resting place of those who made said history! Katrina is extremely knowledgeable, insightful, and clearly passionate about the graves, memorials, and crypts found in Alter Südfriedhof. We enjoyed the tour so much, we came back to the cemetery on our own later just to continue wandering the grounds! The hot chocolate was a decadent bonus to round out the tour. If you’re looking for a hidden gem of a tour in Munich, this is it!

I absolutely loved this tour!! Our guide was exceptional, knowledgeable, genuinely curious, and clearly passionate about the history of this cemetery and its connection to the city of Munich. What really made the tour special, though, was the atmosphere. It felt like walking through history with a friend who just happens to know everything, and is excited to share it. We even made some new exciting discoveries together!! ;) The best tour I’ve experienced this year. Fully recommend! PS. Trust Katrina's hot chocolate recommendations! Truly the best hot chocolate ever!

Wonderful tour! Katrina clearly has a passion for history and we learned so much about the cemetery. It was really beautiful to walk around and we loved hearing about the different prominent graves (including some ghost stories)! As a bonus, we spent some time feeding the cute squirrels that were running around. Then we drank what was probably the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had! Can’t recommend enough. This was a big highlight of our trip. Thank you Katrina!

Loved this tour! Katrina was such a fun tour guide and was very knowledgeable about the cemetery, its history, and who was buried there. The tour had a great mix of Munich history, spooky stories, and some free time to wander the beautiful cemetery. And we fed some squirrels! Plus the hot chocolate from the chocolate shop was fantastic! We never would have found that shop without the tour. I highly recommend this tour!
