South of Ibra stretch the magnificent Wahiba Sands (Ramlat al Wahiba; also known as the Sharqiya Sands) – “a perfect specimen of sand sea”, as they have been described. This is the desert as you’ve always imagined it. A huge, virtually uninhabited swathe of sand, with towering dunes, reaching almost 100m in places, sculpted by the wind into delicately moulded crests and hollows.

We had a wonderful day with Yaqoob. He was the most accommodating, polite and knowledgeable, we learnt a lot about Oman and its history and culture from him.

We had a brilliant 8 hours desert tour with our excellent guide Tahar. We drove maybe 2 and a half hours south of Muscat but the time went quickly with Tahar’s interesting stories of Omani life, landscape and culture. The empty quarter is spectacular and huge (wish we could have spent the night). Driving over the dunes is great fun and we met some wild, but friendly, dromedaries. We had a refreshing swim in the Wadi Bani Khalid on the way home then a great late lunch at very local place on the way home.

We had an unforgettable experience on our private tour in the desert and wadi. Our Tahar guide was exceptional: very welcoming, always listening and very kind, he speaks very good French so we were very surprised, his pedagogy made the visit even more enriching, he knew how to share his knowledge with clarity and passion. Thanks to him, we were able to enjoy every moment, with complete serenity. We highly recommend this tour and warmly thank Tahar for his accompaniment!

It was a perfect trip! We loved it. We started from Muscat, went to Wadi Bani Kahlid, had a deliciuos Lunch and headed to the Dessert with riding on camels. It was a blast
