  Great experience to catch several of the «must sees» in a day. Fair price and all included. Recommend guide Sanjo! He shared so much local knowledge and did help out with photos, snacks and more.

  

• I think Ella is overrated. It's loud, crowded and (somewhat) more expensive.

  In November 2025 I was in Ella for 3 days. I had chosen Sudumal Cottage as my accommodation. It is located just above the main road on the hill.It offers Pivate Rooms, equipped with small terrace, seating, mosquito net and private bathroom. Plus a beautiful view of the countryside. Because the street downstairs is quite noisy even at night, I recommend earplugs otherwise I liked it there. Ella herself is a terrible place. Loud, tight, crowded even in the "low season" in November. I had also talked about it with other travellers who felt the same way. Okay, we were about the same age, about sixty. Maybe younger people feel differently. The place consists only of restaurants, accommodation and souvenir shops. Activities include: Little Adam's Peak: Boring and very artificial with silly attractions. Nine Arch Bridge: Crowded with people. I don't know what's so great about it. Okay, it's a brick bridge because you needed the steel for the war back then. Ella Rock: I didn't make it until then. The weather was too bad and the view there would have been zero. Horton Plains: Since Ella offered nothing else, I went to the Horton Plains. I really liked that. That's at least. 3 hours driving time (round trip with Private Driver). For the hike there one should again at least. Schedule 3 hours. If you value a good view from the "Word's End", you should arrive there at 11 am at the latest. After that, all you see is fog. Important: When I was about mid-November in Ella and surroundings, it was always from about 14-3 pm to rain. This continued until late at night. Early in the morning it was always nice and the sun was shining. So if you want to do something in dry weather, you should have it done by the afternoon. As a means of transportation I had a "Private Driver /Guide" for 12 days. I highly recommend that. The cost is only about 60-70 US dollars / day. In addition, only the tip for the driver, the own accommodation as well as admissions to parks & other attractions . The driver pays for his accommodation and meals. I've invited him a lot, though. Just ask for a quote for a Private Driver upon your arrival at the hostel / hotel. Offers are also posted all over the streets. Speaking of means of transport: In mid-November 2025, the government officially banned the rental of TukTuks to foreign tourists (the rental companies probably do not comply). There were just too many accidents. Even in low season tourists huddled at the bus stops and the trains were crowded. When I wanted to take the train out of curiosity (booking via 12go.com) it promptly failed.

  

  

  

• Great Day in Ella!

  We arrived in Ella with not much time and a list of places we wanted to hike. We were a party of 3 and ready to get some exercise after lounging for a few days at the beach. Although we are experienced hikers and could have probably guided ourselves through these hikes, we elected to book with Dinu through TripAdvisor to make our day more relaxing and productive. We couldn’t have asked for better. Dinu was extremely responsive and came up with a plan and transportation. He seemed to know everybody and everybody knew him, including the dogs with whom he seemed to have a special bond. He even had medicine for one of them. We didn’t have to pay for any extras including park fees and lunch. He came very prepared with snacks and gifts and rain gear for everyone (which we thankfully did not need but very certainly could have). We benefitted greatly from his local knowledge and we were able to ask so many questions. After the hike he helped us arrange our travels onward, which had changed due to train service being suspended after the cyclone that had hit the country just before our arrival. He ended up going with us and the driver all the way to Colombo. To say he went above and beyond is an understatement and we will forever remember him as our man in Sri Lanka!

  This is a full day and I would say you have to be pretty fit to do it! There are two hills to climb, one took 2 hours to climb and the other took about 45 mins but was very steep. Plus the coming down hill time. I believe I'm fit but I did find it tough. However, the views from the top were stunning and I felt a real sense of achievement at doing it. I was encouraged to keep going and given every assistance. We stopped for lunch in Ella in a charming local restaurant and had a great lunch. The 9 Arches was interesting but the train isn't running currently. My guide was a lovely bloke. Sanju. He was very patient with me, adjusted the pace and built in frequent stops. I'm no spring chicken and although i am carrying a few extra pounds, i am fit. He was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna too. He even managed to remove a couple of small Leeches off my foot using an ayerveydic balm! Oh and we did the trip in a tuk tuk; excellent. This isn't a cheap trip but it's worth it and i think represents good value. A full day that i recommend.

  This was an incredible tour. Sanju did an amazing job. It was the best way to see all the sights in Ella in a day. He knows so much about the area. Pointed out so many plants, vegetables, lizards, peacock and we even saw a cobra! We got to the bridge just as a train was coming by. He did a great job getting us in the right places at the right times and provided us with so many photos to help cement our memories. 5+ stars!

  Fun tour. The highlight was hanging out with Thushan. He is a local and such knowledge and fun company! I would recommend the tour to everyone who would like to experience Ella's sights with convenience and local commentary.

  This tour with Dinu (guide) and Pollie (driver - not sure of the spelling) was a blast! Dinu was a fantastic host, full of jokes, and was so much fun to spend the day with. He pointed out animals and lizards along the way that I never would have noticed if hiking on my own, guided me to great places for pictures, and was so patient with my speed of hiking, encouraging me to take breaks when needed. As someone who is a slow hiker, and sometimes needs encouragement, it was so appreciated! Thanks for a wonderful time.

  We had an incredible full-day hike! The landscapes were stunning, from peaceful tea fields to misty forests and wide mountain views. Everything felt well-planned, relaxed, and perfectly paced. What made the experience truly special was our guide Dinu. He was friendly, open, and easy to connect with from the very beginning. His humor kept us well motivated. He was very attentive, always checking if everyone felt comfortable and safe. His knowledge about nature, culture, and local life made the hike even more interesting, and he explained everything in a simple and enjoyable way. He also knew the best viewpoints and even helped us take great photos. This tour became a highlight of our trip, and that’s mainly thanks to Dinu.   We had an amazing time with Dinuka! The hike was both adventurous and informative. Dinuka is a very sympathetic and openminded guide. We learned a lot about the local culture and everyday life.
