  My wife and I were visiting Japan for the first time across 3 cities for a 2 week stay. Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. Needless to say we felt overwhelmed at the idea of planning everything ourselves and figuring out how to best optimizing our time there while still enjoying things at our pace. We hired Mico to plan out a self guided tour in all 3 cities for multiple days and he meticulously created a customized plan for us for each day that accounted for traveling to parts of the city, what to do in that region and what to eat while also providing instruction on how to get there. Mico takes his work seriously and I appreciate how professional he was during the entire experience. Also his English is A+. Felt like I was talking to an American so that was very very helpful in planning. Highly recommend Mico to meet you where you’re at in terms of what you are looking to get out of your trip.   I had an amazing time visiting Yamamoto Travel in Osaka. The team is extremely professional, warm and passionate about their city. The guide was not only very competent, but also very attentive to each participant, which made the tour both informative and fun. The tours on offer are well organized, varied and allow you to discover Osaka from an authentic angle — whether by bike, on foot or through cultural workshops like pottery.   I reached out to Mico before our trip to Japan and he was amazing from our first email. I feel like we are well seasoned travelers, but there is so much to do and see in Japan I just got a bit overwhelmed trying to plan it all on my own. We talked about what my options were and he crafted an itinerary that fit. We met with Mico in Osaka and Kyoto on different dates for walking tours of both cities. He took us to really cool shopping spots, to eat delicious local cuisine, and taught us about Japan’s culture as well. We visited temples and shrines and castles and Mico shared with us the history of each place along the way. On top of that we went to some places where we were the only tourists in sight and it really felt like we were seeing a part of Japan that no visitors get to experience. We had a third day planned with Mico and had to pivot because of inclement weather. He offered us the chance to get out of the city and into the mountains around Kyoto for a day trip that took us from the forrest to the seaside and it was something I never could have done without his help. His demeanor is laid back and friendly and he was a stark contrast to the huge group tours you see all over with mobs following around a local holding up an umbrella so no one gets lost. It truly felt like the time was ours. The flexibility and feeling of not being rushed around was just what we needed. On top of all that, Mico was available before we arrived in Japan to answer questions and make reservations at restaurants. He gave me his direct number and when we parted ways he let me know if I need anything during my stay I could reach out for help. He even crafted a self guided tour of Tokyo for us for the second leg of our holiday. I feel like we did not just get a great tour guide, we made a friend. Arigatogozaimasu Mico!

  Joined a tour with Miko a few months ago and wow! I can't believe how amazing and deep the tour was. I thought it would just be a simple food walk, but it turned out to be something really special. Miko showed us cool local spots, told interesting stories, and made everything super easy to enjoy. The food was great and nothing felt rushed. It honestly felt like I was exploring the city with a local friend. Definitely recommend!! Would love to do it again next time I’m in Osaka. 😊

• A truly memorable time in Japan with Mico

  My family spent 2 days with Mico during our recent trip to Japan- one in Kyoto and one in Osaka and it was a 5 star experience all the way. Mico spent time ahead of our trip to get to know our family and find out what our interests were, so that he could tailor two days of itinerary for us. We spent 8 hours together in Kyoto on an incredible walking tour that took in all the sites we wanted, plus some special surprises from Mico. We sampled the most delicious food in the Nishiki food market including tempura crab, wagyu, mochi, fish cakes and matcha sweets, along with saki. Throughout the day we stopped at quaint coffee shops, enjoyed temples and shrines, samurai shops, museums, and we finished the day with an epic walk up to Fushimi Inari for sunset. Nothing felt rushed and Mico shared the history of each attraction and experience. In Osaka, we jumped on electric bikes and with Mico leading us, we cycled to the Osaka castle, to museums and beautiful shrines and gardens where there was not another tourist. We ate more incredible foot at the market including yakitori, okonomiyaki, oysters and so much more. We can't recommend Mico enough. He was a well-informed, educational guide, who is also a lot of fun, with so much love and enthusiasm for Japan. He was open and generous with his time, recommending places for us to shop throughout the rest of our trip. Mico made our trip to Japan truly memorable, and for that we thank him.

  If you’re looking for the best private tour guide in Kyoto or Osaka, we highly recommend Mico Yamamoto from Yamamoto Travel! We spent a few days exploring both cities with Mico, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. He took us to all the must-see spots — famous temples, the 1000 Torii Gates, local food and flea markets — but also showed us hidden gems we never would’ve found on our own. Think peaceful backstreet shrines, off-the-radar markets, and authentic local neighborhoods that gave us a real taste of Japanese culture. Mico’s super knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what he does. He shared tons of cool stories, cultural insights, and history in a way that was easy to follow and super engaging. It really helped us connect with the places we were seeing, rather than just snapping photos and moving on.
