A great day out. Only way to see the island. Peter the guide was great and provided lots of local information. The only way to get a true appreciation of the island

First the ferry ride along the Swan River, picking up more people at Fremantle then it was on to Rottness. It’s almost a definite that you'll see quokkas in the square with the restaurants and shops. They are really cute, hopping onto seats or even tables in their quest for any scraps of food left by tourists. We then had a super bus ride around the island with Max giving us loads of interesting information about the island and its animals. There’s also an interesting WW2 episode that we wouldn’t have know about. Max was great fun, mixing facts with the occasional joke. Once we returned to the main square, we had a look around the souvenir shops and then took the small, one carriage train up to the WW2 gun encampment. Great to see even more of the island with lots of birdlife to spot. Thanks for a really good trip, we would give it a 10!

A trip you shouldn’t miss when visiting Perth! We absolutely loved the biking activity at Rottnest Island — it was the highlight of our day! We only wish we had more time to explore because the island is incredibly beautiful. The bus tour is also worth doing on your first visit since it gives a great overview of the island, but next time we’re definitely going straight to biking and swimming. November was a great time to visit — a bit hot, but perfect for swimming and enjoying the beaches. ☀️🚲🌊

We took Ferry from Perth. Very busy. If you book through Trip Advisor you have to get your tickets from the booth so either get there early (45 mins before departure) or pick them up the day before if you want a good seat. If you want a good seat you will have to be on the berth early and be prepared to queue. Good commentary on the boat and everything very slick. Good advice on Quookas and how to behave on the island. If you are not able/willing to do the water sports or cycle to various places then it can be a long day if it’s hot. So if you are not into water sports or cycling I would suggest getting train from Perth to Freemantle and get the ferry from there as there are a number of ferry’s each day to and from Freemantle plus Freemantle is a nice place to spend some time if you have to wait for the ferry or train. On the island Sunset Bar and Dining has a lovely view over the Salt Water Lakes and it’s quieter than The Hotel which looks out over the bay. We did the Rottnest Express Bus tour which was very good. Jess the tour guide was brilliant, clearly knows her stuff.

The ferry was pretty good, a little loud and shuddery at idle but its a big motor that's gotta punch that boat through some waves/weather. It rides well and has a kiosk with snacks. If you check the weather before you go (e.g. BOM Meteye) the side of the boat that will remain dry will be opposite of the wind direction, the windows will remain dry and you'll be able to have a better view. Surprisingly, the tour guide commentary during the journey down the Swan River was provided by a woman with a thick Spanish accent. Why the tour company believes this is appropriate is mind boggling. A substantial percentage of what she said was not understandable. Even her pronunciation of 'Australia' was strange. Why on god's green earth would the company hire a non-native English speaker for this role? 🤔 Moving on, the island itself was excellent, the Quokkas were cute and plentiful, and the views of the blue/turquoise water and the city in the distance were beautiful. The bus tour was the best part of the day for us. The driver was very good, and guide (Kate) who provided an informative commentary was really cool, provided lots of current and historical information about the island and even cracked a couple of subtle, colloquial jokes along the way. We saw ospreys, a whale exhailing in the distance, a sealing sunning itself, and some beautiful coves and bays. Aside from the company's ridiculous choice to put a non-Aussie English speaker on the mic during the Swan River bit, it was a fantastic day.
