No experience needed — just the desire to go deeper. This is your chance to breathe underwater, explore a live coral reef, and find out what scuba diving actually feels like before committing to a full certification course.
Learn at a real training facility, professional certified instructors, a full marine life and eco briefing, and groups of no more than four people per instructor — not a rushed experience run out of a truck.
All dives are shore entries from the beach — no boat involved and zero risk of motion sickness. You walk in from the sand, which means the experience is more relaxed from the start and accessible to travelers who'd rather skip the boat altogether.
You'll dive Tres Palmas Marine Reserve and Black Eagle Beach, two of Rincón's most stunning underwater sites
Ability to swim is required. Prior snorkeling experience recommended but not essential..
.
Not recommended for pregnant travelers
Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
Not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries
Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Approximate time for completion: Half day (3-5 hours)
First, there's the paperwork to do at Check-in. You'll need to provide us with some basic personal information and answer some questions on your medical history.
After Check-in, you will meet your instructor and relax in our Training area to watch a short video which explains the course details.
Thereafter, we will begin equipment fitting, training and briefing from your Instructor. This check-in process will take approximately 45 minutes depending on the size of the group.
All activities START at the dive center and END on the beach--NO BOAT IS REQUIRED for a great experience. Transportation from the dive center to the beach (5 min. drive) is not provided. Limited taxis available in area.
At the beginning of the first dive, you will learn some basic diving skills in shallow water with your instructor, and then you're off exploring the same coral reefs as certified divers. You'll have a dive instructor with you at all times and can dive to a maximum depth of 12m, around 39 feet.
If you have chosen a second dive option, we will take an hour long break and conduct an additional briefing. We move to different coral reef where you'll go on the second dive with your instructor.
If you really loved the Discover Scuba Diving introductory dives then your next step is to get certified with the PADI Open Water Diver course.

Your adventure starts at our dive center on Road 115 — the only brick-and-mortar dive shop in the area. After check-in, you'll watch a training video covering everything you'll learn and practice in the water, so nothing comes as a surprise when you're underwater. Then you'll get properly fitted with your scuba gear — mask, fins, tank — before sitting down with your instructor for a marine life and eco briefing. You'll learn what you're about to see on the reef, how these ecosystems work, and how to move through the water without disturbing them. From there, you'll follow your instructor in your own vehicle five minutes to the beach entry point. In the water, your instructor walks you through basic scuba skills in the shallows — mask clearing, breathing, buoyancy — before you head out to explore a live coral reef, descending to a maximum of 12 metres / 40 feet. You'll have your instructor with you the entire time. The experience ends on the beach. Total time: 3–4 hours.

Had a great experience with Brenda! Patient and thorough instructor with lots of great suggestions for other things to do in the area. Only issue was that the link for the waiver that was sent about a week before via email, didn’t work. The link sent by text the day before our dive did work.

Amazing dive shop and team. Took us out and showed us some reef. Super professional and fun. Dive masters took great time getting a ten year old comfortable to dive. Memories made.

Good scuba diving tour for beginners. To begin with, the operator played 15 minutes of instructional video which clearly explained the basic techniques. The same thing was then re-iterated one more time by the guide. They also had few quiz questions that they asked the participants to answer to ensure everyone paid attention and understood the basic techniques. Then they took us to a shallow water area in the beach, and the guide went through the basic instructions one more time. We also did some practice in the shallow area before they took us to the deeper region. But unfortunately, the weather conditions were not ideal. The visibility in the water was not great which impacted the whole experience. Also, the depth to which they took us was only a few feet down and it was quite less compared to few other international locations that we did previously. Overall, we felt the tour was a bit expensive for the experience we got, but we still had a good time.

We came to Puerto Rico with our friends and they had never tried scuba diving and my husband and I had only done a beginner class years ago. Claire was our instructor and she was fantastic! The classes were easy to understand and she was extremely patient with us. We are all grandparent (late 50’s and early 60) but all still in great shape. Even so, we were more than capable to do this so don’t let it scare you, try it! This was a great company to work with and we will be back.

We were very nervous at the beginning since we both are afraid of being in the water. However, Megan was a superb and friendly staff who helped a lot in teaching and guiding us through. Even though it was our very first time, we were able to relax and enjoy this amazing and unforgettable experience. If we were to come back to Puerto Rico, we will definitely come here again for advanced scuba diving. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This was a spectacular event. After a lot of snorkeling, this was the first time ever scuba diving for my 14 year old son and 18 year old daughter. My daughter took a while to get her ears equalized and figure out buoyancy, but our guide Greg Nellermoe was super patient with her and she never got scared. After about 10-15 minutes of that, we started swimming underwater to and over the reefs and she did great. She relaxed enough to start noticing fish etc. My son is less fearful and ok with some risk taking in general but actually had a harder time—felt claustrophobic with all the gear and breathing through the regulator he said. That said, again the patience and good vibes coming from our Padi Divemaster Greg seemed to keep him engaged and he quickly got it. He took got excited being down there. When we finished despite sharing that excitement, he commented on the anxiety claustrophobia, when I asked if he wanted to do the certification. He hesitated which is unusual for him. I think he will do it. So hats off to Greg, because anyone who’s raised a 13 year old knows how easy it is for them to opt out of an activity the second they feel anxious or scared. That my son kept with it despite that was huge. Thank you Greg and Rincon Diving for an amazing, life changing experience!
