Experience an 8-hour day trip into the remote wilderness of Doubtful Sound, the heart of Fiordland National Park, while nature guides answer questions and point out landmarks. This fiord is home to bottlenose dolphins and fur seals - both are often seen. In season, you may even catch a glimpse of the rare Fiordland crested penguins. Explore Doubtful Sound's vast waterways on board a luxurious vessel.. A highlight is experiencing the unique 'Sound of Silence', where you hear only birdsong while floating on the fiord with the engines turned off.

We did this tour in April which can be pretty cold and wet so go prepared (we did). We did Milford Sound when it was pouring with rain when we did this but this made it spectacular as all the myriad waterfalls were in full spate. We did Doubtful sound in some sun which was beautiful with the clouds hanging around the tops but quite a different experience. This is really two trips in one. A boat ride across the lake Manapouri then a couch ride then the Doubtful sound trip. Long day but totally worth it. Wrap up well enough so you can stand outside, the view from inside with misted windows is just not the same. Good layers of warm waterproof clothes can make all the difference at this time of year. You can get food and coffee where you depart and food on board.

This is the one top thing you must do in New Zealand’s South Island. Doubtful Sound is beautiful and isolated. With the overnight tour you get to be part of a small group who are custodians of the entire sound for one evening and night after the day-trippers have gone home. Wonderful. Highly recommended.

The entire experience was made even better by the brilliant commentary of the boat and bus drivers - Entertaining and educational both. The amazing scenery was made even more alive with the staffs help. We had weighed whether to take the Milford Sound cruise or Doubtful Sound and we are happy with our choice. The day after our cruise we drove up and back to Milford Sound and that drive too was spectacular. We never felt like we were being rushed throughout the day - 7 hours total. So many highlights - NZ seals, the silence as we floated in the bay, waterfalls although smaller than normal, the coffee and food offerings, and on and on - it was a day to remember and well worth the cost.

Very well organised trip Very clean and comfortable boat Coach driver was excellent Difficult to make any adverse comment except we only saw the dolphins for a few seconds and that was out of human hands

Wow what an unforgettable experience!! We were lucky to have clear blue skies pretty much all day. The coach journey was our least favourite part as we were sat at the back and simply couldn’t hear the driver commentating! There was plenty of space on the boat to move around and get a good view of everything. Excellent value for money!
