The building that now houses our ticket office is one of the oldest canal related buildings in the area, dating to 1774 and is grade II listed. It was originally a warehouse for goods being transported on the canal, hence the large cranes outside- one facing the canal, the other facing our cobbled car park, formerly stables for horses towing the craft. Somewhere near the site of the wharf, although the exact location is now lost, was Winterwell Hall, a medieval manor whose remains were lost during the building of the canal basin.
A few hundred yards up the hill from Horse Close bridge are the sites of two historic establishments. Cawder Ghyll was the location of the start of many Skiptonian’s lives, as it was the site of a maternity hospital until the 1960s. At the top of the same hill can also be found a Bronze Age enclosure, probably for the corralling of animals, however bearing some of the characteristics of a hill fort.

5.00Cracking little booze cruise, really well organised on board, table service so no queuing at the bar, nice wide beam boat. Staff super friendly, would highly recommend. Great value as well 👍

5.006 of us went on a dark wet windy night. It was an absolute blast form start to finish. Well organised, the drinks were great, despite no being a cocktail fan. The staff were great fun and really helpful. Great value and highly recommended. Will be back in summer!!

5.00A friend and I throughly enjoyed the Drinks Ahoy Cruise. The atmosphere on board was just right with music loud enough to hear but not too loud that it making talking difficult. The drink choice were spot on and we enjoyed trying the different cocktails. We added a graze box to our night which we would absolutely recommend! There was plenty of choice and for us, it made the evening that much better. The staff were very helpful and certainly know their customer service. All in all a brilliant night and one that we shall definitely be repeating.

5.00What a thoroughly pleasant way to spend an evening. Staff were super friendly, great choice of drinks, lovely boat, drinks were good quality and strength. Felt very safe, all covid compliant, excellent attention to safety. Highly recommended
