Amelia Island is full of rich history, and is the only location in America to have flown 8 independent flags. It’s rich history takes us on a journey through time including the Timucuan Indians who were our first inhabitants as far back as 2000 BC. The flags tell the story of religious struggle and persecution, the effect of Christianity disallowing any other God to be worshiped. The devastating impact of the Revolutionary war on the island and rebels acting in the name of higher power. Smugglers, slave traders and pirates have all had a part to play in the evolution of this Islands growth. This fascinating tour will take you on a journey through time and show you how such a small barrier island has had a major and little know impact on the history of America. The eight flags tour takes you on a historical journey through all of the locations that those flags have flown over the islands incredible history. The only location in America to have had this number of independent flags. You will travel through the historic downtown district and out to the original Fernandina. On our journey we will cover each of the flags, the period from which they flew and the historical significance behind all of those dates from a historical perspective.

5.00Shay was a fantastic tour guide. She shared many stories of the history of Amelia Island, from the eight flags, to architecture and to her own experiences as well. She was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot and had great fun at the same time. Five stars for sure!

5.00Our tour was exactly as I had hoped. Shay is very knowledgeable about Amelia Island, and she is articulate. It was clear how much she loves where she lives. She spoke of the history of the island as well as giving us tips about places to visit. I would fully recommend this tour.
