Ek Balam is a must-see site on your visit to Yucatan. Only its astonishing stucco facade of a Maya mausoleum is worth the visit. Combined with a cenote and an optional visit to a tequila distillery will make it a very interesting half-day trip.

Ek Balam or ‘Black Jaguar’ is one of the most important archaeological sites of Yucatan. The main palace is higher than the Kukulcán temple in Chichén Itzá and you still can climb the structures. Recently they found an 80% intact stucco façade of the mausoleum of Ukit Kan Le’k Tok’, the most important Maya ruler of Ek Balam, with more than 7000 thousand pieces of offerings. Dating back to the 8th century. Simply amazing! A professional certified guide will tell you about this beautiful ancient Mayan city.

5.00This was the second tour we took with Mexigo and it didn’t disappoint. Huberto was excellent and took us around Ek Balam at a leisurely pace, gave us really good explanations as to what we were seeing and a fun lesson on the Mayan numbering system! He gave us plenty of time to climb up and down the acropolis and ample free time afterwards to look around. The cenote visit was great and he also gave the option of visiting a blue agave distillery towards the end of the tour, which was interesting. A great half day tour.

5.00José is about the most knowledgeable and genial guide you could ask for. His explanations made our visit to Ek Balam simply fascinating. He also took us to a very pleasant cenote; then we stopped at a Blue Agave distillery and had even more fun. A lot of enjoyment and learning packed into a half-day - I highly recommend.

5.00Visit this place, it is very beautiful, you can go from Mérida by bus to Valladolid, at the central station there are taxis that take you to the ZA and on the way back it is the same, they cover it in 1.5 hrs.

5.00We, as a family of 4 with 2 kids, decided last minute to venture out of Cancun hotel zone and stayed overnight at Valladolid, visiting Ek Balam. What a great experience this turns out to be. We were lucky to have Gilberto as our driver, guide and more of a friend. We enjoyed the early entrance at Ek Balam (before the crowd), the history and stories, kids had a blast at the cenote and there's never any rush to get back to the air-conditioned van. Highly recommend Gilberto and MexiGo Tours. Gracias!

5.00We loved the tour to Ek Balam! The temple was amazing to see up close. Our guide Gilberto was enthusiastic to share his culture with us and took the extra step to share information from his personal books and pictures. We learned a ton about the Mayan culture. In addition he was on time picking us up and the vehicle was safe and clean. Gilberto's sense of humor had us laughing all day!
