Discover the magical surroundings of Essaouira and enjoy stunning ocean views while riding a horse.
We will depart from the village of Diabat, which is known for being a popular destination for hippies and Jimi Hendrix in the '60s and '70s. The village is also home to the ruins of a palace that was built before the city of Mogador even existed.
We will pick you up from the main street and guide you through the narrow alleys of the village to our stables of Ranch Aftass. We will then ride alongside the river, which is often visited by different species of migratory birds. You might catch a glimpse of a flamingo there.
We then pass through the mimosas and eucalyptus forests and the sand dunes, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the island of Mogador, Essaouira and the wild beaches. Then we head back along the shore. Before we arrive back at the stables, we might encounter some herds of goats or a local farmer taking her cows back to the village.

Dar Sultan Palace
The palace is linked to the founding of Essaouira (formerly Mogador) by Ahmed al-Mansour during the Saadian Dynasty in the 16th century. It is now fallen to ruins and is a real 'castle in the Sand'. During the 60's and 70's this was a popular spot where hippies would hang and dance around campfires. Jimi Hendrix would have been inspired by this ruins to write his famous song: "Castle in the sand."

5.00We had a wonderful experience at Ranch Aftas in Essaouira. Ahmed took me and my daughter on a beautiful horse ride across the dunes south of the city, and it was truly memorable. As a 60-year-old complete beginner, I felt completely safe and well looked after throughout. Ahmed was calm, professional, and very reassuring, which made all the difference. The scenery was stunning, and the whole experience was relaxed and enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone looking to try horse riding in a safe and beautiful setting!

5.00The contact went smoothly and booking a ride was quickly arranged! Despite the owners not being there themselves, a good guide was arranged for us who also spoke good English. The horses looked well groomed and were well matched to the level of the rider. My friend had no riding experience but could manage well on his horse. The ride was very nice and depending on your level and desires you were allowed as hard as you wanted over the beach. The horses listen carefully despite the strong wind that day. The guidance was good throughout the ride and there were also videos and photos taken on request. All in all we had a top experience!

5.00With the family on horseback through the dunes and along the beach with sunset. Great experience! The horses were well looked after and the owners very helpful. They also organized the taxi ride from Essaouira to the next village where the ranch is. For all levels of experience within the small group was plenty of room. Very nice!

5.00Absolutely amazing!!!! Contact with Maaike was great, the guide was PERFECT. Such a sweat man. Took my girlfriend on a date, it was my first time on a horse. Did 3 hours 😂 horses were sweet and kind. Loved it.😍
