Discover the magical surroundings of Essaouira and enjoy stunning ocean views while riding a horse.

We will depart from the village of Diabat, which is known for being a popular destination for hippies and Jimi Hendrix in the '60s and '70s. The village is also home to the ruins of a palace that was built before the city of Mogador even existed.

We will pick you up from the main street and guide you through the narrow alleys of the village to our stables of Ranch Aftass. We will then ride alongside the river, which is often visited by different species of migratory birds. You might catch a glimpse of a flamingo there.

We then pass through the mimosas and eucalyptus forests and the sand dunes, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the island of Mogador, Essaouira and the wild beaches. Then we head back along the shore. Before we arrive back at the stables, we might encounter some herds of goats or a local farmer taking her cows back to the village.

Dar Sultan Palace

The palace is linked to the founding of Essaouira (formerly Mogador) by Ahmed al-Mansour during the Saadian Dynasty in the 16th century. It is now fallen to ruins and is a real 'castle in the Sand'. During the 60's and 70's this was a popular spot where hippies would hang and dance around campfires. Jimi Hendrix would have been inspired by this ruins to write his famous song: "Castle in the sand."

Amazing experience!!! Very thankfull to Maaike and Ahmad to take us on this beautiful sunset tour. Ahmad brought us to a wonderfull spot where I could make a marriage proposal.

The contact went smoothly and booking a ride was quickly arranged! Despite the owners not being there themselves, a good guide was arranged for us who also spoke good English. The horses looked well groomed and were well matched to the level of the rider. My friend had no riding experience but could manage well on his horse. The ride was very nice and depending on your level and desires you were allowed as hard as you wanted over the beach. The horses listen carefully despite the strong wind that day. The guidance was good throughout the ride and there were also videos and photos taken on request. All in all we had a top experience!

With the family on horseback through the dunes and along the beach with sunset. Great experience! The horses were well looked after and the owners very helpful. They also organized the taxi ride from Essaouira to the next village where the ranch is. For all levels of experience within the small group was plenty of room. Very nice!

What a beautiful experience, enjoyed the peace outside the city. A nice route driven. The horses are well cared for, calm and nice to ride. The guidance was professional and friendly, with an eye for people and animals. Highly recommended!

Absolutely amazing!!!! Contact with Maaike was great, the guide was PERFECT. Such a sweat man. Took my girlfriend on a date, it was my first time on a horse. Did 3 hours 😂 horses were sweet and kind. Loved it.😍

I did the Sunset Tour at this beautiful ranch in Morocco and it was truly an experience to remember. From the moment we arrived we were warmly received by the friendly team. The horses were well cared for, quiet and clearly used to rides with guests. The route was breathtakingly beautiful, we drove through a varied landscape of dunes, bushes and open plains, with the sun slowly setting in the background. The golden light gave everything a magical atmosphere. Our guide was incredibly professional and knew a lot about the area, but also gave us the space to just enjoy the silence and the view. For both beginners and advanced, this is highly recommended. Everything was well organized and felt safe. If you are in Morocco and are looking for a unique way to experience nature, be sure to book this tour! I'd love to come back for a longer ride. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!
