See the amazing pink waters of the Salt Mine, view the thousands of waders in the Ramsar Wetland, Flamingos, Pelicans and all the species, view Seals and Jackals whilst driving on the Beach and then onto the towering Dunes.

This experience requires a minimum number of participants, if this is not met we will offer you another time slot/ date or full refund.
Your vehicle should be as light as possible and fueled up at the start of Tour. Leave any extra water cans and jerry can at home.
This Self drive tour is not available to Cruise liner Guests
If you have a car rental car please ensure you have their permission to use their car in Sandwich Harbour
If you have your own vehicle please ensure that it is adequately insured
If you do not have a car you can rent a car from us . Please contact us
Please note German guides are limited and we do not have the capacity to give everyone a German guide, These will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. Please note we can not guarantee a German guide on every tour!!
Please make sure your vehicle is equipped with all the necessary tools to enter the dunes, A spare tyre, equipment to change your tyre if needed etc

After meeting in Swakopmund we drive to Walvisbay, where we meet 1/2 hour later our Walvisbay Guests. Then past the Salt Mine onto the beach, to the Dune belt at Sandwich harbor, where Sea meets Dune, and up the towering Dunes, for some really adrenaline creating moments and stunning views. Down many steep slip faces and up many tall dunes along a really exciting dune drive. You follow our guide with your car and are helped along in any situation by our guide. We guide on route help with driving techniques, communicating via Radio. Please insure your car is adequately insured and have car rental company permission to enter Sandwich. After the dune drive we go back to Walvisbay inflate tyres and back to your accommodation. Its an awesome experience. Please note the price here is for 1 Vehicle including 2 persons. All additional vehicles and persons are extra please note.: should your car rental company not allow their vehicle into Sandwich you can rent one from us. its an additional
Walvis Bay Esplanade
The tour really starts at the Walvis Bay Esplanade. Here we view the Flamingos and air down our tyres. We exchange experience and learn about each others vehicle. We then go past the Pink salt lakes of the Salt Mine onto the beach and to the towering Dunes. We do the same route as our Sandwich Harbor Dune drive.

5.00We had an exhilarating day out to Sandwich Harbour- it was a very high spring tide with 1.6m waves - we were the only car to get to Sandwich Harbour through the back dunes as our wonderful guide, Gerhard, was very experienced. We went up and down very high dunes but saw the beautiful Sandwich Harbour. Coming back the tide had washed right in - even the back dunes were covered - once again Gerhard did an amazing job and safely got us through - with waves lapping over the car!! We tried to go to see the seal colony in the afternoon but after going through 5 “rivers “ of tide coming in we had to turn back! Thank you Gerhard for a great day out! We highly recommend this tour and guide!

5.00We booked the Self Driving Tour to Sandwich Harbour. I expected to enjoy the beautiful nature and improve my 4x4 driving skills. And I can promise every guy: this is amzing!!! You get a perfect advice from the guide and follow him. You start easy step by step. After this trip you ride up and down the dunes like a rollercoaster. Beside you get a lot of information about the nature, animals and history. The food is also great. Many thanks to our guide Riaan, he maked a great job 👍👍👍 Markus & Belinda

5.00Our tour with Gerhard and Ryaan from Desert, Dunes and Dust Tours in Swakopmund was absolutely fantastic. They are excellent drivers, and their high-quality vehicles made the whole journey smooth, safe, and exciting. Watching the sunset from the Namib Desert dunes with the Atlantic Ocean in the background was truly unforgettable. The sunset dinner was beautifully arranged and delicious, adding a special touch to an already incredible experience. I highly recommend Gerhard and Ryaan to anyone visiting Swakopmund — a truly memorable adventure!

5.00The whole experience of driving through the sandwich harbour and then the dunes, was an extremely exhilarating experience. It seemed like a very private tour right from the word go. A small group of 3 cars, me driving one of them, driving the entire length of the sandwich harbour and then dune bashing, driving up and down the huge Namib sand dunes! It was extremely satisfying, fun and also scary, all at once. I feel so thankful of Mr. Andrews for his mentorship and guiding me throughout the drive, on the walkie talkie. He was very professional and a gentleman throughout. This one is a memorable experience and I’m very thankful for allowing me the opportunity to do this activity in Swakopmund. Cheers and regards.

5.00Stunning landscape and great tour guided by Winton today. We drove our own 4x4 and Winton was excellent at explaining how to drive on the sand dunes. It was exhilarating! We stopped to take pictures at several points and had a pleasant snack towards the end of the tour.
