By joining this mochi pounding experience, participants will gain insights into the cherished history and cultural significance of this Japanese tradition.

Participants will use traditional tools such as a mortar and pestle to pound and shape the glutinous rice dough.

Afterward, they can enjoy freshly made mochi in its plain form or topped with delicious accompaniments such as kinako (roasted soybean powder), sweet red bean paste, nori (seaweed), and sweet soy sauce.

Our hosts Ayumu, Mau and Runa were excellent. They took us through the history and tradition behind Mochi and then lead us in the process of pounding and making Mochi. The end product was delicious. All up a fun experience for the family.

My husband, two teenagers daughters and I really enjoyed our mochi pounding experience this morning. Mao and Seina were so friendly, engaging, helpful and knowledgeable. It was very hands-on and we got to make and eats heaps of different flavoured mochi. 10/10!!!!

This is a fun activity for a family with children. Our family had a lot of fun! Coming from Hawaii and knowing a little bit about mochi made the “hands on” experience more meaningful since we don’t see too many families pound mochi anymore.

This was an incredibly fun experience. My partner and I were surprised that we were able to learn about the history of mochi, make it, and eat it all in just one hour! We signed up for the family friendly class expecting mostly kids to take part in the experience, but there was definitely fun to be had for all. Would highly recommend!

I visited with my 10-year-old daughter, and we had such a great time. The staff were cheerful, friendly, and made everyone feel welcome. My daughter especially enjoyed pounding the mochi with the “yoisho!” cheer and tasting it with a variety of toppings. The freshly made mochi was so soft and delicious!! It’s a wonderful activity for families, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and authentic mochi-making experience.
