if you are looking for the perfect "Get Away From it All" experience then look no further than the Pelican Bar, a rustic wooden bar built on a sandbank a quarter of a mile out to sea, half-way between Black River and Treasure Beach. The Pelican Bar is the perfect place to spend the day being busy doing nothing, sunbath, drink beer, swim in the shallow waters, eat fresh fried fish or even bring along your fishing gear to catch your own dinner.

The Pelican Bar quite literally began life as a dream, local fisherman Floyd Forbes dreamt one night of a bar built out to sea, resting on stilts. The clarity of the dream inspired Forbes to set about building this bar, which he did by transporting large planks of wood on his fishing boat. In 2001 the bar was completed and it was named "The Pelican Bar" after the large flocks of Pelicans who rested on the sandbank. It was originally used by Floyd and his friends to sit and take a break from a hard day's fishing.

Floyd's Pelican Bar

Between Treasure Beach and Black River you will be taken by a fishing boat to a rustic wooden bar built on a sand bar a quarter mile out to sea. The Pelican Bar is the perfect place to sunbathing, drinking beer, swimming and eating fresh fried fish. The Pelican Bar began as local fisherman Floyd Forbes dream of a bar built out to sea, resting on stilts. Large wooden planks were transported on his fishing boat. In 2001 the bar was completed and it was named "The Pelican Bar" after the large flocks of Pelicans who rested on the sand bank. It soon became popular by locals and tourists as a place of picture perfect serenity. Watch the beautiful sunset (weather permitting) as well as the cliff diving and listen to the Reggae Band. A perfect place to sit back, relax with a cocktail in hand. The boat ride is between 15- 20 minutes but worth the travel.

Floyd was so much fun. Expect the unexpected. We took a small boat and ended up getting rained on, but you have to take the go with the bad. We met Floyd and took pictures with him. Bring cash for drinks. They didn’t have food last time we went, but everybody was very pleasant and it was a nice visit.
Swim, relax and chat.

Floyd’s is a trip without the luggage 🙋🏻‍♀️ chill, interesting and friendly. Bring a license plate and carve your name.

My trip was amazing! My tour guide Rumone was outstanding! He was very informative and taught us a lot. We even stopped and got some really delicious food on the way. Which was the best food I had during my entire stay! The ride was cool because you get to see nature at its finest. Also getting to Floyd’s was a quick boat ride which was very peaceful. When we reached it was a cool vibe. Everyone was welcoming and I even met Floyd! He was very humble and appreciative.Overall I can check this off my bucket list as a success. But, Rumone is the best . He definitely will be my go to when I touch down again!

The driver (Andre) was professional, prompt m, knowledgeable and kind. The vibe at the Pelican Bar was energetic and positive. Great food and the bar had the best drinks.

I looked up tours to the pelican bar when our excursion through Sandals was canceled. I found good reviews here but I didn’t see our resort, Sandals South Coast, listed. So I called and Andrae answered. I asked him if there was any way he could pick us up at South Coast and how our excursion was canceled. He was so nice and helpful. Though they haven’t done this before he called me back in a few minutes and said they could and what the cost would be. He set us up with our driver Roxy. She picked us up on time and drove us to and from the Pelican Bar. We enjoyed talking with her so much. Such a nice girl. She made our trip off resort very nice. Thank you to both of you for your great service! I highly recommend this company. One love Foxy Roxy in her Voxy!!

My driver was Demar. Excellent Service! Picked up me up at 9:00 am sharp, as stipulated, even invited me a cup of good Jamaican coffee from a local spot. Priceless! And thank you for going the extra mile for me Demar! The experience in itself was great however the bar HAS A LOT TO IMPROVE!! And when I say A LOT Mr. Floyd, this goes to you! The bar selection was extremely poor to say the least!! Only 2, TWO! choices of beers to offer (and bad ones by the way) or rum punch! If you are visiting one of the most famous bars on earth featured on so many prestigious traveling sites I'll expect at minimum a Pina colada ! You are vacationing in the tropics nonetheless and please make sure to bring cash as credit cards are not accepted! I I was lucky enough to have a few dollars with me that day; who in the world carries cash nowadays even chewing gum I pay with my watch! At least the food department is fantastic. I had fish curry; cook to order; so order early, everything here is in "Jamaican time" (lol)! What better place then this to have the freshest fish you could think of! I won't disappoint, trust me. People do bring personal items to leave it in the bar, is the tradition, think license plates; shirts, hats etc if not for a tip you can have your name carved. So think something you can take to leave it there! Thank you Demar & Road Travel Jamaica for making at least one of my bucket list a reality. Way to go !
