We will gather in our cozy kitchen before leaving with our local foodie to go shopping at the famous and vibrant food market at the Plaza de Lugo in downtown Coruña. We will see the varieties of sea food and fish just coming from the boats and ready for selling. We will be immersed in the trading environment with locals. A great opportunity to learn about the Galician gastronomic culture. Pencil & Fork will buy all products we will need for the cooking session and we will return to our kitchen just a few minutes walking from the market. Once there we will be ready to roll up our sleeves and start cooking. We will finish eating everything we have prepared with a glass of local wine, red or white, is up to you. Are you in?
Menu:
-Surprise snacks (depending on the market)
-Mussels with Godello
-Scallops with ham
-Natural cockles
-Paella with cockles and squid
-Santiago cake (almond cake)

The hosts are delightful people and their facility is terrific. We had a lovely afternoon and appreciated the small group size (6 students, 2 instructors). Food safety/hygiene raised some red flags (how raw meats were handled, shrimp were not cleaned or deveined, etc) and we would've loved to see individual spices vs a packaged seasoning mix for the paella. We had alot of fun but unfortunately didn't feel that we learned anything about Spanish cooking.

There isn’t enough character spaces to comment on how great this was. Ana & David were amazing hosts with so much attention to detail and a passion behind their mission of teaching elements of Spanish cooking by teaching not just how but why. The paella event was a blast and so much delicious food for the group to enjoy. The market walk was very informative and made you feel like you were a local. One of our attendees has a fish allergy and they completely went above & beyond making a non-fish based option with even special broth to ensure their experience was equally memorable in making their own paella & being part of the entire experience. Ana & David are great, their place is super cute and I would 100% frequent them regularly if I lived in La Coruña. 10 stars + fireworks. Will highly recommend to others.

What an amazing afternoon with this couple who used food to help tell the story of Spain, its culture and people! Both David and Ana were kind, knowledgeable and kept us engaged with not only the how but also the why of the food prep. Going to the local market and selecting the seafood, cheese and bread was an adventure within itself and great fun. And the meal (read feast) we had wan soooo delicious! I hope everyone gets a chance to spend an afternoon with David and Ana at Pencil & Fork

We always look forward to a culinary class experience with locals when we travel around the globe. Today’s market-to-table lunch at Pencil and Fork was an amazing experience. We shared the kitchen/dining experience with a couple from Long Island and our hosts, David and Ana. Our day was filled with delicious food, wonderful wine and great conversations. Mary Jo baked this delicious almond cake for our dessert! If you’re looking for a great experience in A Coruña, check out Pencil and Fork
