Tongdosa temple is one of my favorite temple in Korea because it is 1,400 years old and you can feel the age of the temple as you walk inside. All the Korean monks have to come here to be a monk in Korea because it enshrines a true Sarira of Sakyamuni buddha. It is lucky this beautiful temple is located within an hour away from Busan. Also Eonyang bulgogi is something you must-try while you are in Korea. This is the best Bulgogi(beef) in the country. This half-day tour will give you a pleasure to all of your five senses.

Tongdosa Temple
Tongdosa temple was designated as UNESCO world cultural heritage in 2018. The temple was built in 646 by master monk Jajang during Silla kingdom and it is regarded as one of the 3 most important temples in Korea since it enshrine the Sarira of Sakyamuni buddha. You will truly love this temple as you walk by old pavilions surrounded by mountains and stream. It takes 50 minutes from Busan by car.
This small town called Eonyang is famous for its Bulgogi barbecue in Korea. Unlike other types of Bulgogi in Korea, This Eonyang bulgogi is dry, grill on a charcoal on a table. We try to have lunch in one of the most famous restaurant in the town. Therefore there shall be a waiting time. It takes 1 hour to Busan from lunch place.

5.00We met our guide BK at the hotel for the drive to Tongdosa. It was a very leisurely private tour with stops for coffee along the way. BK was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a very good introduction to the temple and its history. After the temple we drove to the town of Eonyang and had lunch at a restaurant that served the famous Eonyang Bulgogi - a highly local and enjoyable experience. Overall we had a wonderful time and we highly recommend the tour to anyone looking for a Korean cultural experience.

5.00Solomon was a terrific guide the entire day. Our trip to Tongdosa was beautifully planned and finished with lunch at an exceptional restaurant. Solomon let us walk a beautiful riverside path to the temple and met us at the entrance, explaining the rock carvings, the statuary, the gates and cemetery areas. The temple buildings and paintings were beautiful and he took care to educate us about the history and details. If you want to learn about Sarina and find where they are located, you’ll have to take the tour!

5.00My private trip to Tongdosa temple from Busan was fantastic. My tour guide was Mina who speaks fluent English, and she is very pleasant. Mina explained to me very clearly about the meaning of the 3 gates that lead to Togdosa temple, and arrangement of the different buildings in the temple complex, and each Buddha statue represents in each building. The architectonic design and the golden Buddhas and the artistic Tangkas in each building make the Tongdosa Temple a unique temple complex in South Korea. Tongdosa is a one of the many UNESCO World Heritage sites in South Korea, and it’s a must visit site for any visitor to South Korea. The most impressive hall is where the Buddha’s life is depicted in 6 Tangkas that fill the entire back wall. I highly recommend walking the long path in the pine forest next to a stream to access the Tongdosa Temple complex.

5.00We had a fantastic time. Our guide Ms Jun took the time to share the long history of Tongdosa Temple in great detail. The temple was so beautiful. Ms Jun was quite superb in English which my husband much appreciated :) We also enjoyed a delicious traditional Korean lunch. The day we took this tour was absolutely beautiful. Much to clip in our memory bank. Definitely recommend this trip!!!
