Explore Rohtas Fort in a day trip from Islamabad with licensed guide. The Fortress was built by Sher Shah Suri from Afghanistan to block the advances of Mughal emperor Humayun and to to suppress the local Gakhar tribes of then Potohar region who were allies of Mughal regime in sub-continent India. Rohtas Fort was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1997 for being an "exceptional example of the Muslim military architecture of Central and South Asia. The Rohtas Fort has the following 12 gates. All of them are built in ashlar stone.

Rohtas Fort
Built in 16th - century by Sher Shah Suri, "Rohtas Fortress" was built to suppress the local Gakhar tribes of then Potohar region during Mughal regime at sub-continent India. Interestingly, Rohtas Fort was never stormed by force and was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1997 for being an "exceptional example of the Muslim military architecture of Central and South Asia.

5.00Excellent visit to Rohtas Fort - an unmissable stop when visiting Islamabad. I had Ghulam as my guide for a second day and again he took great care of me. We even had a really nice lunch on the way back from Rohtas, along with some of the best chai I have had on this trip.

5.00Rohtas fort is an incredible sight. The structure is beautiful and offers great views of the surrounding landscape. My guide was knowledgeable and shared the history of the fort and how its usage changed while various peoples ruled the land it stands on. A great experience
