Banff
As you leave Calgary’s skyline behind, the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) rolls westward like a red carpet into the mountains. Within minutes, the flat prairie gives way to foothills, and then—bam!—the jagged peaks of the Canadian Rockies steal the show. It’s about 140 km (87 miles), but with views this good, you’ll wish it were longer. This route is a living timeline—from Indigenous trails and railway expansion to modern eco-tourism. Every bend in the road whispers a story: of explorers, conservationists, and the occasional bear sighting. And with a guide narrating the journey, guests get the full backstage pass—not just the pretty pictures. Itinerary: Calgary/Banff → Lake Minnewanka+Two Jack Lake (30 mins) → Cave and Basin National Historic Site (45 mins) → Town of Banff (60 mins, includes optional lunch break) → The Banff Sign (15mins) → Johnston Canyon (60 mins, include free crampons) → Banff/Calgary
Lake Minnewanka
1: Lake Minnewank & Two Jack Lake (Pass By) In just 30 minutes, you’ll visit two of Banff’s most photogenic lakes—each with its own story and wow factor. First up: Lake Minnewanka, the park’s largest and deepest lake (28 km long, 142 meters deep). Its name means “Water Spirit” in Stoney Nakoda, and trust us, the vibes are strong—think glassy reflections, dramatic peaks, and maybe a curious elk or two. 30 minutes • Admission Ticket Free
