The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of this picturesque valley, its rolling vineyards, breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, fine wines and a 300-year history. This tour includes a return transfer from Cape Town in a luxury air-conditioned motor coach and a full day riding the tram and tram buses around the wine estates.

Franschhoek
Upon arriving in the Franschhoek Valley, you'll receive your tram ticket and can explore the wine estates at your own pace using the Hop-On Hop-Off tram & buses. The Navy line starts at Groot Drakenstein terminal. The NAVY line includes Vrede en Lust, Plaisir de Merle, Boschendal, Allée Bleue, Camberley, Bartinney, Le Pommier, & Zorgvliet. Circular routes stop at 8 estates, with trams & buses every hour. Expect to visit 4-5 estates. Wine tasting fees are extra and payable on the day. Hop on & off as you like. Schedules may change.

3.00A+ 5 stars for the Franschhoek wine workers. You provide a very fun time and the tram and bus serive to the wine estates was fantastic. C- for the big red bus" portion (transport to/from Cape Town). 1) they say 1 hour bus ride...is 1.5+ with no traffic, 2) they say start at 9:30 at Franshhoek, but you'll start at 10 (if you're lucky). I planned my day and reservations nssed on 9:30 stary as advertised, but it throws your whole day off if you start 1/2 hour later so I missed all my reservations. It might be better if you do the tram first b/c that leaves every 30 min instead of every hour like the bus (might be able to make up some time). BUT the best wine is at the smaller bus stops via the bus portion... the tram was okay but me crowded, commercial, and you have to toke a tractor to the estate from the tram so instead of 60 min at the wine estate you get about 40 min which is really rushed for a tasting. I did the Pink line and loved Leopards Leap and Dieu Donne the most. I was able to power through 5 tastings, the max, but I was really rushed and could only do it because I was by myself and could taste quickly when necessary. But really, choose any line, and the bus portion is the best and the tram portion is crowded and more generic.

2.00Do not book this tour with Viatour. We were given the wrong meeting info and almost missed the tour. Book it with another company. The wine tram itself is a good tour but our day was somewhat spoiled by confusion and stress at the start.

5.00Very well organized. The locations are beautiful to wander around, and the tram, bus, and tractor rides are a fun activity. If you’re interested in art, the gallery and garden sculptures at Grande Provence are interesting and engaging, as is the animal-produced art at Pigcasso. If you’re willing to spend more money (we weren’t) the food and drink offerings at all the wine farms we visited look impressive. I would happily do this again to have the opportunity to visit different wine farms.

5.00The wine tram is a wonderful experience. The ride on busses and the tram itself throughout the wine farms is a refreshing experience. Our highlight is Sima the tour guide, very well spoken, friendly and smart guy. He is very accommodative of everyone and very knowledgeable. I recommend him at anytime!
