The volcano tour was great! Mike was very knowledgeable about the formation and development of the many volcanoes surrounding and within the City of Auckland. He was also very knowledgeable about the Māori culture and the importance and use of the volcanoes in their everyday lives. Also how the volcanoes were utilized during the wars and the interesting lava formed tree molds created during the eruptions. Mike was a great communicator, eager to share his knowledge. We did the full day tour and highly recommend it.

We just finished 3 weeks in Australia and (mostly) New Zealand, and we went on a whole lot of tours. This was absolutely my favorite! Mike, the guide, started Voltours after going on numerous outings with friends. He demonstrated a depth of knowledge about the many volcanoes we visited or viewed from afar, as well as many of the other sights along the way. We learned a great deal in the several hours with him. I know a couple of reviews questioned whether the whole day was necessary or if a half day would have sufficed. We greatly enjoyed the full day. In fact we visited some of the same sites we had on a tour to Devonport, but only with Mike did we explore the tunnels under one of them and learn about the “disappearing cannons” built there in the 19th century. The only thing to note is that when the description says “we’ll walk a lot” they’re not kidding. It involves nontrivial slopes. Probably not an issue for most people, but a potential limitation (in our case he drove up to a couple of summits we might otherwise have walked to).

We had a really great day with Mike. We learned so much about not just the volcanos of the Auckland area, but also about the areas history and culture. While there is a fair amount of walking, it is evenly spaced out with the trips between sites. Mike is considerate of your needs (coffee, snacks, restrooms) and accommodating. The car was very comfortable for 5 guests (the maximum) and the conversation flowed throughout the entire day. This was a fantastic way to learn about the formation of Auckland and also get a feel for the city and its surroundings. I highly recommend this tour.

Mike was very knowledgeable and fun. Once you see one volcano you will be able to see others. It was fun seeing them in different locations around Auckland. There are different types of volcanos and these are different from those in Oregon, USA. I am not a hiker but enjoyed the scenery and people watching while some hiked the craters.

Had a good time and learned a bunch of fun facts. Got to see a number of the volcanic features, which was not just limited to the big domes that you would be able to pick out yourself by guessing or Wikipedia

Learning about the geological history of Auckland was amazing. I had no idea how unique and influential the geology is in this region. Mike was an amazing guide. Super informative and easy to talk to. Full of knowledge and answered all our questions. He offers a half day tour, but I would suggest doing the full day tour. The second half of the day was so great and you must not miss it.

This full day tour is good for those who like volcanos, but also those who like scenery. You can include varying amounts of walking. I had injured my knee a few days before this tour and Mike was able to make several accomdations for me. You will see many Volcanos and Mike will explain the volcanos and their significance to the area. The scenery from the volcano's rims was magnificent. Mike is very personable, knowledgeable, and well traveled himself. Truly an enjoyable day.
