This tour will fascinate you, in which you will enjoy all the nature and wildlife of the Paraguay and Manduvira rivers. Wetlands, riverbanks, but also small patches of forest will impress you with the great fauna all around you. We will also enjoy a great diversity of ecosystems such as palm savannas, forests, and grasslands, during a 10 km drive on a dirt road in which we will watch a good number of birds and other animals.

Enjoy a nature and birding tour on the Paraguay and Manduvira river, just 50 km from Asunción. We will go to the Puerto Olivares farm, on a private car (about 1 hour and 15min drive). As soon as we get to the farm, we will start birdwatching. From the first gate of the farm, we will enjoy an incredible number of forest and savannas birds, including Savanna Hawks, Toco Toucan, different species of Parakeets, Woodpeckers and many others.

Once we arrive at the Manduvira River, we will have a short walk in the monkeys trails to observe mammals including Black-and-Golden Howler Monkey and Azaras Capuchin Monkey. Then, we will have enjoy a boat ride through the river, where we will find a large number of waterbirds, including different species of herons, storks, sandpipers, terns, kingfishers. We will also observe several birds of prey, probably seedeaters (depending on the time of year), as well as some of the aquatic mammals such as neotropical or giant otters, or even caimans. We will also enjoy a beautiful sunset, giving you the opportunity to capture unique moments with your cameras with the incredible nature that offers the Paraguay river.

This was simply one of the best tours of this kind I have ever taken. Pre-trip, Alberto was in good communication with me about possible snags with weather, tips on clothing and other items to make the day more pleasant, and arrived punctually at my hotel at the arranged time. The drive out to Puerto Olivares took a little over an hour, during which there was a chance to see the life of Asuncion's suburbs away from the city's hustle and bustle, then out into the countryside where the rough-edged Chaco meets Paraguay's more temperate zone. As we entered the ranch area, Alberto provided binoculars to each participant who needed them. He is simply amazing with the sighting and identification of the area's birds, a skill that can only be honed with much experience. This is not one of those tours where you hope you get to see some wildlife--you will see a plethora of birds and mammals, including howler monkeys (and including the cute puppy at the ranch where we had a delicious lunch). There is plenty of walking to be done, but not so much you need a perfect fitness level to do it. After lunch it was on to the boat, where we enjoyed plenty of crisp beer and conversation while traveling to the confluence of the Paraguay and Manduvira rivers. I was delivered back to my hotel just after dark, thankful to enjoy such an indelible experience with new friends and a guide as knowledgeable and friendly as Alberto. This is not a cheap tour, but you get every bit of what you pay for it.

Alberto was very organized, patient and went out of the way to give us the attention we needed. What truly stood out was his genuine passion for nature and how warmly he connected with everyone on the group. I left not just with beautiful memories and insights , but with a newfound appreciation for Paraguay natural beauty.

My tour in Paraguay was absolutely unforgettable! Spending the day immersed in nature, surrounded by stunning birds, vibrant flowers, and flowing rivers, was truly magical. The beauty of the places we visited made time fly by—I couldn’t believe how quickly the day passed. A highlight was stopping at a lovely ranch for a break and some delicious snacks, where everyone was so warm and welcoming. An amazing experience I’d highly recommend to anyone wanting to connect with Paraguay’s natural beauty and hospitality!

I like nature and birds and this is the best tour I have ever done, two days from Asunción and spending a night at the Puerto Olivares Station. Not only because of the easy and abundant sighting of birds (there is forest, river, open spaces), but because of the interesting experience, sailing along the Manduvirá River to the Paraguay River, touring the property, etc. Alberto Esquivel is a Pro Guide and very nice, and the people in the room, too. To highlight the comfort of the accommodation and the excellent food of Veronica, both things surprised me. Spectacular, of those who leave a mark, highly recommended.

The trip out on the river could not have been any better. Alberto and the people he works with are absolute professionals. My time spent with them was amazing. The knowledge, time, and care they put into their work will surprise, and please you. Thank you for an unforgettable trip!

It was a fantastic day tour and worth every cent! There are things you can't influence, like the weather. We were very lucky in that regard. You can't usually choose your participants. My companion and I were really lucky there too, with a couple from Atlanta. Last but not least, the tour guide: competent, very relaxed, courteous. Arranging a date was easy. I initially wanted to book Friday, but it ended up being Saturday because the first option was already fully booked. Alberto, the tour guide, got in touch immediately. And at least said that he was busy at the moment and would get back to you later. Which is exactly what happened. You drive onto a farm, through about eleven gates that you open and close again. You get pretty close to nature and especially the bird world. There were binoculars for each participant and lots of opportunities for photos and videos. An incredible number of different birds. Including parrots, storks, vultures, ibises, owls and also toucans. OK, we didn't see any monkeys. I still give it 10 out of 10 points. I can also speak for my companion, who was born and raised in Paraguay and is, among other things, an artist and writer. She called Paraguay a "brittle beauty". On the trip I was able to experience the beauty above all. A highlight: the trip on the raft: simply amazing! And a barbecue too. If you don't like meat: there are alternatives. There are days that stay in your memory and this trip is definitely one of them, for all of us who took part. A positive memory. Definitely more of it on our next visit to Paraguay! Thank you Alberto!
