YehLiu Geopark

Yehliu is a cape on Taiwan’s northern coast best known for Yehliu Geopark, where sea erosion has shaped honeycomb and mushroom rocks such as the iconic Queen’s Head and Dragon’s Head. The area is mostly flat but offers little shade, so sun protection is advised during summer.

Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street)

Feel transported to this former gold-mining mountain town—once built by the Japanese and now a maze of history-rich lanes and alleys. Most of the charming streets are stairways lined with snack stalls and teahouses, and they can get quite crowded. (Tip: If you’d like to experience Jiufen at sunset or dusk, book a departure after 11:00 AM. This will make Jiufen the final stop, giving you time to enjoy the sunset views and evening lights.)

Great Northern Taiwan Tour with an Outstanding Guide

The Northern Taiwan tour would have been good on its own merits. The Yehliu Geo Park was gorgeous, with many interesting formations. The Jiufen gold mining mountain town was replete with historical landmarks plus a wide variety of shops and eateries. The Schifen waterfall was beautiful - be sure to go all the way to the big one, don’t stop at the first. Launching a lantern in Schifen was a thoughtful and rewarding finish. What made this tour even more special was the skill and personality of the guide, Sean. He did not just have basic knowledge, but was willing and able to answer all of our many ad hoc questions about history, geography, culture and gastronomy. If you schedule this tour, you will have a very enjoyable day. If you get a booking with Sean, you’re in for a treat.

From being greeted right as we left the cruise ship to being delivered right to the airport doors, the entire tour was absolutely fabulous! Our guide, Jeffery, was magnificent. He was friendly, excited to show us his part of the world, attentive and very knowledgeable. The tour was a very reasonable price and totally catered to whatever we wished to do and see, with lots of great suggestions from Jeffrey, and it couldn't have been any better! Jeffery went above and beyond at every stop. In Juifen we sampled so many delectable foods, fruits and drinks and it didn't cost us a dime. He had great recommendations. At the Geopark, even though it was raining, he took the time to show us every interesting land formation that there was to see and even provided raincoats and umbrellas for us. We also felt very privileged to go to a very beautiful large temple in the area with an English speaking staff member. She took her time to explain so many interesting facts about their culture and history. We can't rave about our tour enough and we would highly recommend it.

We just got back from an unforgettable trip to Taiwan, and we can’t stop talking about our experience with Vincent H. from Yolo Taiwan. From the very beginning, he made us feel like we weren’t just tourists, he made us feel like family. Vincent is one of those rare people who’s clearly doing what he was born to do. He’s not just a guide, he’s a storyteller, a mood-setter, and someone who genuinely cares. He took the time to get to know each of us, asking thoughtful questions and tailoring the experience to what we loved. It was never one-sided; it felt like a real connection. He made my wife’s parents feel completely at ease, which meant the world to us. They were so comfortable and cared for the entire time. And to top it all off, Vincent surprised us with a birthday cake! And not just for me, but for my father-in-law too. That kind of thoughtfulness is something you don’t forget. One moment that really stuck with us was when he played Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” during an our last scenic drive of the day. It was his favorite song, and somehow it became ours too in that moment. He has this artistic way of using music to match the mood, and it made everything feel cinematic. Vincent is the best tour guide we’ve ever had, hands down. He’s passionate, kind, and incredibly gifted at what he does. He’s also one hell of a photographer so you’re in great hands from all angles! Haha we feel so lucky to have met him and we know this won’t be the last time we see him. He’s now a part of our story, and we’re forever grateful.

Great itinerary. Tour guide James was excellent and very knowledgeable. We were able to customize the tour to what we liked. If you want to have tea at Jiufen tea house will need to allot for time especially around sunset. It’s beautiful at this time and great for pictures. If it’s a must to have tea I recommend extending your tour time or shorten time at other spots. Great tour would highly recommend.

Nice day out exploring the natural beauty of Northern Taiwan. The drive in my estimation as interesting as the destinations. Mr Paul was a friendly host with an appropriate amount of connection and local insight. With anything outdoors it’s subject to micro climates but were mostly working in our favor over the day.

We spent the day with Vincent as our guide. He is fun, very personable, prompt, well organized, and knowledgeable. He taught us so much. The geo park was amazing. It was great fun exploring the towns and eating some great food along the way. The waterfall was large and powerful when we visited. We also saw perople sending up lanterns. Vincent knew all the great places for pictures. We had so much fun and learned so much. He is a wonderful guide. We definitely recommend spending the day with Vincent as your guide.
