  I purposely book long layovers to explore cities I have never been to. Instead of going into the actual city center, I opted to do this northern Taiwan tour. Despite the rain and wind, Hicks, my amazing tour guide showed me some of the coolest things I've seen in my life. We grabbed some hot ginger tea and saw the rock formations at Yehliu Geopark, particularly, the Queen's head. It was wet, windy, and all together exciting. Next, it was off to the Shifen waterfall. Little Niagara Falls they call it. Not only was this sheer majestic, but Hicks insisted we visit all the angles to grab the perfect story for the 'gram. After the falls, and to end my Chinese New Year adventure through Asia, we visited the Shifen train station village, where I set a lantern up to the sky and then had rice stuffed chicken wings and peanut rolled ice cream - trust me, good stuff. The tour ended in a mountainside village, Jiufen, where there were nine families who had nine potions back in the day, or as the story goes. Climbing tons of stairs, I had some of the best bubble tea of my life, traditional braised pork over rice, and my favorite activity - finally learning how to preform a traditional tea ceremony. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the history and knowledge (and laughs) Hicks shared with me on this layover. I look forward to exploring more of Taiwan in the future, but for now, I have so many memories (and tons of photos) of the 8 hours I spent on this tour. I 100% would recommend this tour who wants an adventure outside of the city.

  From start to finish it was excellent. Great contact and great car. Mercedes with seats like arm chairs. Our guide Ben couldn’t have been better. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Took lots of photos and air dropped them to us . He even made a video afterwards and sent it to us.

  Our private guide Steven was very knowledgeable and a joy to spend the day with showing us beautiful northern Taiwan. Steven is also a great photographer to help us capture our moments. The formations at Yehliu GeoPark were amazing to see, the waterfall was beautiful, and creating our own sky lantern and releasing it was very special.

  Our tour with Steven was very nice. He was prompt at our hotel for the morning trip, safe driver, spoke in easy to understand English, and very patient. I would say that the tour was moderate for walking. It required many stairways and slight distance. It would not be good for anyone with handicaps or elderly. Steven took us to 4 different places throughout the 8 hours. He gave at least a hour at each location and explained each area: Yehliu Geopark, Shifen Waterfall, Shifen Old St, and Jiufen Old City. I would recommend this tour and guide.
