It takes about 2.5 hours to drive from Taipei to Hualien Taroko Gorge. The scenery along the way is beautiful. Hualien Taroko National Park is famous for its majestic and almost vertical marble canyon landscape. Taroko is a world-class tourist attraction in Taiwan, whether it is the amazing Taroko Shakadang Trail, the canyon cliffs at Yanzikou, the majestic Hehuan Qilai Mountains, or the excavation history of the Central Crossing Highway all kinds of nature. Due to the devastating earthquake that struck Taroko National Park on April 3, 2024, most attractions are closed. Officially confirmed stable recreation areas reopening from July 1, 2025 include: Chongde Recreation Area, Tongli Village, Tianxiang Visitor Center, Tabido Trail, and Xiangde Temple.
