This tour is planned as the welcome or first approach to the city.

Montevideo has a lot to offer the visitor, so it is impossible to get to know it in depth in a single day.

Here I will show you the entire city and its main attractions, but we will also enter small neighborhoods with their own style and characteristics.

If you are only visiting for a couple of days, when you leave you can be sure that you really enjoyed your time here and got to know all of Montevideo as very few visitors do.

On the other hand, if you have more days to enjoy in the city, you will already have an idea of which points you want to return to to get to know them more deeply, dedicating more time to them.

It is really a long drive, and the possibility of doing it all will depend on how early we start and how long we stop at each place.

For my part, I will dedicate the whole day to this Tour, so I do not have an established end time.

The vehicle to be used is licensed for 7 people, including the driver, and there are security elements for everyone. The ideal number of adults in the group should be 4 of medium build so that they can travel in total comfort. It is also possible to incorporate 2 children or adolescents if they are not large. The clarification is because the 3rd row seat is smaller than the rest.

Plaza Matriz

Here we will begin our tour. From 1726 it was the Plaza Mayor of the Fortress City of San Felipe and Santiago de Montevideo. Since its creation, this square constituted the civic and social center of the city, first with the construction of the Iglesia Matriz and later with that of the Cabildo (seat of the colonial government), to which were later added large shops, buildings of a social nature and hotels. Here we will walk the pedestrian circuit that will take us to our next destination.

Plaza Independencia

After the demolition of the fortifications of the colonial city, and the independence affirmed, the walled city gave way to an open city. The Plaza constitutes the link that unites the Old City with the New City. It also marks the beginning of the country's main avenue, 18 de Julio. Around it are some of the most outstanding buildings in the city, such as the Solís Theater, the Salvo Palace, the Puerta de la Citadel, the Estévez Palace and the Executive Tower of the national government. The monument to the hero José Gervasio Artigas rises above the center of the square. Below it descend some stairs that lead to the mausoleum where his remains rest.

Our full-day private tour of Montevideo with Marcos, from VerdeAzul, was the perfect introduction to the city during our 6-day visit. My relatives and I visited Montevideo for a day (whilst in Buenos Aires). We were a little late getting there because of a slight delay with the Buquebus we were travelling with. Marcos, our tour guide, was waiting to receive us. He found us quickly as we came out of the port, and introduced himself. Before travelling to Montevideo, we had been communicating with him to create a personalised itinerary. Marcos was very calm, friendly and kind. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his hometown, and country in general. Before starting the trip, Marcos explained how he was going to proceed with the itinerary. We went all around Montevideo and were able to visit all the places we wanted to, and stop to take photos. We also had free time to dine and explore shops etc. Overall, it was a great day tour with Marcos. He made it very comfortable and pleasant. We are very grateful to him for a wonderful experience in Montevideo. Marcos is very highly recommended!

The tour was great! If you are short on time this is a great way to see the highlights of the Montevideo. Our tour guide Marcos was great at recommending local places to eat. He was very pleasant to talk to and very informative. A native from Montevideo, his English was great! Highly recommended it!

Marcos was our tour guide. His English was good, as well as his desire to show us the best of Montevideo. He did contact me before the tour to discuss time. I was not able to get on Whatsapp right when we got off the ship, so it was a bit hard to find where he was parked. We needed to go out of the port further than we thought to find him in his van. He had given me great directions on Whatsapp on how to find him, but I had not been able to connect to that. Once we got started with the tour he was very courteous and was informative about the history of the city and the country.
