Kiyomizu-dera Temple
One of the most iconic features of Kiyomizu-dera is its wooden stage, which juts out over the hillside, offering panoramic views of the cherry and maple trees below, as well as the city of Kyoto. The stage is supported by hundreds of wooden pillars, constructed without the use of nails—a testament to traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The temple complex also includes the Jishu Shrine, dedicated to the deity of love and matchmaking. Visitors can try to walk between two stones with their eyes closed—if successful, it is said they will find true love. Kiyomizu-dera is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is especially popular during the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. 5.00We had the most amazing day out on this private tour of Kyoto with Caroline. Her communication prior to, and throughout the tour, was exceptional. We were a family group of 7, in Kyoto for only 2 days. The full day tour ensured we saw all of the wonderful Kyoto landmarks in the short time we had. Caroline was extremely knowledgeable and provided in depth historical information at all of the sites we visited. She gave great insight at each location with advice on facilities, food purchases, souvenirs, and was very helpful with knowing the best spots for family photos. She also arranged a wonderful Japanese lunch for us, which was greatly enjoyed by everyone in our group. Caroline was thoughtful, patient and great fun. The tour was well organised, efficiently timed and extremely comfortable. Caroline coordinated with the driver at all times to ensure we were met at each location without delay. We thoroughly enjoyed our day touring Kyoto, and meeting and getting to know Caroline. Highly recommended.

5.00This was hands down one of the best tour guide experiences my family and I have ever had. Ben is so kind, accommodating, extremely knowledgeable, and fun to be with. This tour was completely worth it and I am so happy we booked it. It made our time in Kyoto magical. Additionally, Ben is easy going but was able to relate to all ages (from my ten year old to my teen to us adults). He catered the tour to meet everyone’s interests. Moreover he was able to answer even the most detailed questions we had on Kyoto landmarks, history, landscape, nature and more. Honestly, we’ve traveled quite a bit and Ben is one of the BEST guides we’ve ever had. Thank you Ben and I truly hope our paths cross again!

5.00Somei was an amazing tour guide. He reached out the night prior to confirm pickup at our Airbnb and was right on time the next day. He was extremely accommodating and very thoughtful about looking at weather map to determine best times to see the various spots so we had optimal weather. He was so pleasant, making the day very warm and exciting for our family of four. He was willing to share stories so we could learn more about the Japanese culture, in addition to all the sights we visited. We highly recommend this tour and Somei!

5.00Amazing and unforgettable would be how I describe our awesome tour of Kyoto with Ben. He was passionate, energetic and very knowledgeable of japanese culture and history. My 2 teenagers thoroughly enjoyed his touring style & sense of humour and engaging conversations.The pace & locations of the itinerary which we modified was perfect while travelling in a super comfortable&luxurious car. 5.00We had the most wonderful day exploring the highlights of Kyoto with Christine. She was incredibly knowledgeable, super friendly, and so easy to spend the day with. We were a three-generation family group of 10, and Christine was fantastic at keeping everyone engaged — from the kids to grandma. She shared so much interesting information in a really approachable, enjoyable way, and we learnt a lot without it ever feeling overwhelming. She was happy to answer all our questions. It was a relaxed, fun, and very memorable day, and we all genuinely enjoyed every part of it. Christine made Kyoto come alive for us and we couldn’t recommend her highly enough.

5.00We traveled with young children and teenagers so we requested our guide Caroline to modify the Kyoto itinerary to include both fun and educational sightseeings for the children. Caroline was very accommodating and we managed to cover all the places that we wanted to visit and had a wonderful time in Kyoto.

5.00If you want to see the important sights of Kyoto efficiently then this is an excellent tour. Ben is a great driver and informative fun tour guide. He took us to many important sights, made a great lunch recommendation, and made sure all our goals were met. Plus he takes professional quality photos and sent us lots of follow up information. We highly recommend Ben.
