This activity will begin with a trip to the Hoi An market, where you can see the unusual fruits and vegetables that are used in our delectable cuisine. We'll talk about the various ways that herbs, spices, and plants are used in food and medicine. Additionally, you will be able to try some local delicacies and fruits. After, we will embark by boat (about a 35-minute trip) to join my authentic family’s village on a small island on the river of Hoi An. Upon your arrival, you will be served a fresh and delicious fruit juice, a typical Vietnamese fruit-based drink. While you enjoy your inviting drink, you will learn about the beautiful Vietnamese countryside and meet Grandma. From here, we will go to my family’s home, where you will begin your sophisticated cooking lesson. Learn how to make the delicious and well-known fried eggroll's rice paper as well as how to make some of the other regional specialties. Once this flavorful meal has been prepared, we will enjoy the meal in my grandmother’s garden. We will then return to Hoi An by boat.

5.00We chose this experience because it received good reviews and was recommended in the Rough Guide to Vietnam. We thoroughly enjoyed the cooking class and market tour, the tour guide Thom and chef was excellent, she explained the various different types of food in the market and the methods of cooking well. We enjoyed preparing, cooking and eating the various dishes.

5.00I had such a wonderful time spending the day learning to prepare delicious Vietnam dishes. It started with a boat ride to a local market to get all the ingredients needed for the adventure. Thom, our guide/ instructor was fantastic and made the adventure even more special. I highly recommend taking this class if you are looking to learn while having a great time!

5.00This is one of the best experiences/ courses I've ever done. As someone who never does reviews, I had to get around to writing this one. Our guides Thom & Hoan expertly and patiently guided my family group of 5, aged 13 - 77 through a market tour with tastings, boat cruise & cooking course. The cooking course at Thom's family farm was an unforgettable delight, with lovely fresh ingredients to use in a fabulous outdoor kitchen. We made so much food we couldn't finish all the delicious things we cooked! We've enjoyed cooking the recipes at home, using the recipe book we got after the tour. A must do!

5.00We had a great day with our guide Na. Very nice to start the day at the market and then take the boat to the family home. We learned a lot from Vietnamese cuisine, the food was great and the surroundings and boat trip beautiful. It was one of the highlights during our trip in Vietnam. Highly recommended to do in Hoi An!!

5.00Our day commenced when we met up with Thom at the Hoi Anh market and it quickly became obvious that she knew everything about the produce and nearly everyone in the market. Following the market experience it was a relaxing boat ride to Thom’s home island for the cooking school. It was not just the cooking school it was a welcome into the traditional family way of life. The food was delicious and the hospitality shown by Thom and family members was exceptional. We could not rate this experience too highly.

5.00You have the option to go to the market as a part of the experience or only cook. Choose the market! It was nice to explore without feeling intrusive, and I felt more comfortable buying with an interpreter. This company gives back to their community as well. Their island village is a nice break from the mainland. They sell drinks for very reasonable prices as an add on.

5.00Lovely day. Interesting tour of the market (great local knowledge) followed by a trip up river where it was great to see how the locals live and support each other. Cooking was great fun and super tasty. Thom is a great host and we chatted about real life for Vietnamese people which was fascinating. It was my birthday and they got me a cake! Fabulous

5.00Girls trip to Vietnam we were so pleased we picked this activity and had Thom as our guide. Despite the rain we had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed learning about Vietnamese food and culture and walking through the market with Thom explaining about different vegetables and herbs and their uses in food and traditional medicine. It was a very authentic experience, food was fantastic and would recommend to all and looking forward to recreating dishes back home in New Zealand.

5.00This was one of the highlights of our Vietnam trip. The lovely Thom's vast knowledge of not only her country's cuisine but also its history and customs was impressive. Being able to experience a day in the life of a beautiful, authentic Vietnamese village was an unforgettable experience. My only regret is that we took the class on our last day. Armed with the wealth of knowledge that Thom gave us, we could have made better use of all that Vietnam has to offer.
