Meet your guide – Vas Blackwood (famous for playing Rory Breaker in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as well as Only Fools and Horses in which he played the robber Lennox 'Shadow' Gilbey) - in Whitechapel, the gritty heart of London’s East End. Then set off on your 2-hour walking tour of the area, visiting film and TV program locations as well as real-life places associated with London’s criminal underworld. Famously the stomping ground of the Kray twins (Ronnie and Reggie) who terrorized the East End during the 1950s and 60s, the area is rich with sites linked to them. Pay a visit to Repton Boys’ Club, where the twins learned to box, and see the Blind Beggar pub, where Ronnie killed an arch rival – one of the ruthless acts that propelled him from mere gangster into an East End celebrity icon (albeit a feared one).

Having rubbed shoulders with many of London’s ex-gangsters to prepare for his role in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Vas Blackwood has countless tales to tell, and you’ll hear the best as you walk from site to site. Learn about ‘The Guv’nor,’ Lenny McLean, a gangster-turned-good guy who started his criminal resume as a bareknuckle fighter before going on to act in popular UK TV programs, like Eastenders and The Bill. You'll also hear tales of Barbara Windsor – a much-loved London actress who married one of the Krays' feared associates Ronnie Knight -- as well as discovering the dastardly doings of Brown Bread Fred, a chap nicknamed after the cockney rhyming slang in which ‘brown bread’ means 'dead' in reference to the murders he committed. See the pub used as Samoan Jo’s in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, as well as Hatchet Harry’s office, where ‘Porn King’ Harry Lonsdale worked in the film.

5.00What a fantastic tour. Vas was so down to earth. Funny, honest and genuine. He actually made a point of speaking to everyone getting to know them he included you in the story and held character very well. The tour was very informative and interesting it showed a slightly different side to the kray brothers (different from what the films portrayed) but without loosing the fact that both brothers were highly respected people who done alot for their local community.

5.00I chose to do this tour half because it was with Vas Blackwood who I always liked in Only fools and horses and also Lock stock and 2 smoking barrels. He was very friendly and funny and brought the tour to life. Recommended

5.00Had a great time on this tour with Vas. This was a Christmas gift for me. A genuine nice bloke who gets in character as a gangster. Me and my partner have never laughed so much with his banter. Vas takes the time to make sure everyone on the tour are all ok and also complemented me on the retro THF jacket I was wearing. A lot of talking to start off with, but this cannot be helped as there is alot of information to get through. Cheers Vas.

5.00This was a great afternoon out. After meeting in The Blind Beggar pub in Whitechapel - the scene of a murder by one of the Krays - and hearing some of the history around the shooting, Vas took us on a lively and insightful tour of Kray hotspots around the East End. The highlight was definitely Vas himself; very funny and personable (and very sweary!), he made sure to interact with as many people on the tour (there were around 30 of us, at a guess.) as he could, as well as with random members of the public (including some bemused police officers!) - some of whom recognised him, either from his acting roles, or from his tours of the area. Although the tour time says 2 hours, ours was nearer 3 - not sure if this is typical, but it might be worth factoring that in if you're traveling or planning anything else afterwards. All in all, highly recommended!
