Lets embark on a journey spanning 3.5 million years?
On this full-day tour, guided by a geologist, we will visit the most scenic points of interest, which just so happen to coincide with some of our most interesting geological features. We'll have the opportunity to explore concepts like vulcano-stratigraphy or polygenetic volcanoes. Along the way, we'll also discuss history and cultural heritage. Bring your swimsuit if you want to take a dip in one of the island’s famous natural swimming pools (weather permitting). And of course, we'll visit Gruta do Natal and Algar do Carvão.
By the end of the day, you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of the geological history and geodiversity of Terceira Island.
The experience is a fully customizable private tour, custom-made according to your personal needs and wishes.

Having a child of 3 years with us, we expected a more conditioned visit, Ricardo exceptionally adapted the tour and we had a complete experience and a vision and notion of the geological, historical and gastronomic context that we would never have had without someone with such a culture.

5.00Fantastic experience. First time on the Third Island. We counted on the services of Ricardo Feliciano as a guide. A deep knowledge of the geology of the island, his knowledge extends to gastronomy, history, architectural heritage and charming locations (even those that escape the mainstream). Extensive experience, not only in working hours but also in various workplaces. Your cordiality, sympathy and availability are total. Highly recommended.

5.00I went on a wonderful private tour with Ricardo. He was very easy to be around and talk to for my solo tour. He arrived on time with a very clean car. He took me to out of the way places for the very best views. We were even able to see mount Pico and Sao Jorge Island! He expertly explained the various volcanos and eruptions that formed the island along with other geological facts. He also explained the history of the island and local legends along with practical matters of common words, street signs and the way life on the island works. For lunch we went to a small family owned restaurant where I had excellent grilled octopus. We toured a cave where Ricardo expertly explained the various lava flows and structures. We ended at Monte Brazil. Ricardo was a wonderful guide and very cosiderate. I really wished I had an extra day to book another tour with Ricardo!! My next excursion was snorkeling and turns out I would have much preferred another day of touring with Ricardo. :-). I felt very welcomed on Tericera and this experience justed added to wanting to visit again!! Thanks so much Ricardo. I greatly appreciated your time, kindness and wonderful conversation. Sheridan

5.00An unforgettable private tour! It'll be just you with Ricardo's company! Ricardo is an exquisite person, kind and a trained and professional guide. He took us around the whole island and showed us with new eyes, both from a geological point of view (quarries, volcanoes, fumaroles) and telling us about some really intriguing folk legends. We touched several scenic spots and well-known locations including the Biscoitos pools where he let us swim in peace. Ricardo is at complete disposal asking if there are different stages that you want to do. A beautiful day and we thank him again so much!! We highly recommend it!!

5.00This tour really helped us better understand the islands! Ricardo is super nice, helpful, and has incredible knowledge of the Azores – from geology and biology to history, life on the island, and even local religion. We (two students of geography and geology) would 100% recommend this experience! It was fascinating to see the different types of volcanic eruptions reflected in the layers of rock, and to explore the variety of lava formations inside the cave. Ricardo picked great spots that weren’t crowded with tourists and adapted the program to our interests and pace. He even managed to turn a traffic jam into a great experience by explaining the local festivities and giving us a peek at a Tourada à Corda: an unexpected highlight!

5.00It was a wonderful day with Ricardo! We were wishfully happy while he showed us the most beautiful places on the island. We were able to create wonderful memories and captured them in photos. Ricardo was also a great Help center for the photos He knows so much about the island and its origins that you could listen to him all day. We had the opportunity to refresh ourselves in a natural pool, were at various vantage points, could visit a park with a waterfall, get to know the volcanic origin of the island better and much more . We visited a local restaurant and a cafe together. We really did get every wish. We would recommend Ricardo at any time and hope to do a tour with him again sometime. Thank you for the unforgettable day dear Ricardo!

5.00If you are looking for an authentic and interdisciplinary island experience that combines the exquisite beauty of Terceira and site-seeking adventures with geological and historical knowledge then this is definitely the private tour for you! As a solo traveler this tour was wonderful way to get to know this “third” island of the Azores. Ricardo is a gentle soul and very knowledgeable geologist, sensitive to the natural world. He designed a tour for my interests. He was flexible throughout the day to add in stops and sites which addressed the ongoing conversation we had as we journeyed around the island in his comfortable vehicle. His thoughtfulness is evident in how he speaks about this green volcanic island. (He also makes sure you stay hydrated and eat.) If you inquire, he has good suggestions for local restaurants and activities. Through our discussion, I found out Ricardo offers additional Terceira-related tours. So at the end of the magical 9-hour tour, after experiencing craters valleys, seeing oceanside cliffs with lava layers, visiting two different types of volcanic caves, and hiking around a fumarolic field with volcanic gases steaming from the earth, I was able to book his 3-hour walking tour of historic Angra do Heroísmo. This second tour (on a different day) helped me understand how deeply Portuguese roots are embedded in this harbor city. We walked the labyrinthine streets, journeying through time, grounded in the architecture and seafaring stories. He shared key events which shaped this island, the Azores and Portuguese history. I look forward to returning to Terceira and hope take Ricardo’s sailing tour. I highly recommend Ricardo’s tours!

5.00I booked the full day tour with Ricardo, and when we left each other in the evening, it was like saying goodbye to a friend or a cousin. Ricardo is so nice and makes you feel so comfortable. He knows so many things and listening to him in a private tour is a unique experience. He is the type of companion who will carefully take in consideration your own interests or priorities, and he will not hesitate to adapt the tour during the day, to please you. 5.00An incredible journey covering the past, present, and future geology of the Azores. Ricardo creates a customized experience for his customers. The tour was tailored to my level of interest and background and I’m so happy to leave the Azores having fulfilled one of my reasons for coming - to see and learn about volcanos. Every place we visited was carefully chosen and he accompanied me into the lava caves, pointing out things I would have missed. It was an experience tailored just for me and it was amazing. Another bonus is Ricardo specializes in private tours so all you solo travellers out there, Ricardo will not turn you away. Instead he will focus on creating a custom experience just for you!
