After decades of travelling, this was my first ever tour. I cannot say how glad I am that I decided on this Georgian Essence tour with Wonderful Travel. It was an exceptional experience! Highly recommended! Giving 8 days to a stranger (tour company) was a big leap that I am sure I would not have taken had it not been for the responses to my queries by Irakli. As a solo traveller it is risky to take a private tour to remote areas with no guarantees of the safety or personalities of the guide. In preliminary responses, Irakli was so personable and professional - it reassured me that this could work. I also really appreciated that they allowed for one-person tours at a premium but not double the cost (paying for two). From the first day when Tato (brother to Irakli) picked me up and we set off into the Georgian countryside from Tbilisi that balance of personable and professional was maintained. The SUV was super comfortable, with wifi and a large sunroof which was wonderful for seeing the mountains and colours as we drove. We drove a lot! I think we covered over 1500 kms - from east to west, north to south. Tato was a very confident driver. It took a few days for my confidence level up with his, to be sure, but after a few days I grew to appreciate the surety of his driving. Some of the roads were pretty dodgy and scary for me, but at no time did Tato's confidence wane and he was quick to assure me that we were safe. By the end of the trip I knew through experience that he well deserves the confidence with which he drives. We did not follow this itinerary specifically - as it was adjusted to add in some hiking and more off-the-beaten-path options. I outlined my interests and their team created a unique and really fascinating and rewarding trip for me. Highlights were so many it is hard to say - but here are a few: walking along Signagi City Walls (wow!) and lunch with the most remarkable view; road cows; the Palace of King Erekle II and 900-year old tree in Telavi; slo-mo cows; gorgeous views on route to and from Datvijvari Pass; exploring and sleeping in a medieval fortress at Shatili; sheep-dogs that channel polar bears when chasing your car; hiking in snowfall to the remarkable views at the blue lake; Gudauri Friendship Monument - the views!; churches and fortresses all unique and with such incredible views... (a theme in Georgia); Stalin Museum in Gori; forest walks to Tsar baths in Borjomi; vineyard baby cow; Prometheus Cave; mama pig feasting; Martvili Canyon; smiling dogs; the juxtaposition of new and old in Batumi; the road from Batumi to Rabati Castle - wow! the views... ; and, the remarkable exploring of Vardzia cave city... to name just a few. I am not much of a sitter and usually work, read or write when I have to just "sit" but I almost never looked down while driving on this trip (recall we drove a lot!). There was a peace about moving through the ridiculously gorgeous landscape of Georgia - not having to think about where you are going, staying, what's next etc - it is all taken care of (and well). Driving is a major component of the "wow" in this journey - the views; the COWS (heart) and other animals; stopping to see how regional varieties of breads are made etc - it is all flexible and a bit of a choose your own adventure. I was quite unsure of "how to tour" like this, but I will for sure do this again after this experience with Wonderful Travel. Tato the guide was very thoughtful, intelligent, honest and had my back throughout the trip. I didn't have to worry about anything (well, some of the roads jumped that caveat but that is just how it is). He communicated historical, cultural, societal and relevant information where needed but there was no pressure to make conversation, which I appreciated. It was very laid back and easy to travel with him as my guide. Each night Tato would show me the accommodation that they had selected and ensure that I was comfortable before leaving - always letting me know he was available online if needed. The accommodations that they picked were diverse and mostly really great. They were often places I would not have chosen or found on my own, but that too was part of the experience as some were absolutely exceptional, others were shockingly comfortable and a couple were with views that ... wow. As a whole, I was really impressed with the accommodation and the meals provided! With the guide's help selecting lunch items I was able to try many Georgian food items that I normally would have never thought to. So good! In summary - I quickly grew to trust that the Wonderful Travel team had integrity and I could trust that they would deliver the experience they promised - and well! I didn't have to second guess things. Normally when you travel solo - esp as a female - you have to question most things to make sure your assumptions are not misaligned with the culture, tourist traps etc. This trip, I could trust Tato and his team to deliver the experience and I really just relax and experience all of the views, cows, places and people we encountered. If you are considering this tour - or any with this company - just do it! It is not everyday that there is a company you can trust - but in my experience this is one you can. They are out to create great tours for people and are really good at what they do! Thanks Tato and team - it was a truly wonderful travel experience!

We had a great time with our tour guide/driver Irakli in Georgia. To say he was outstanding would be an understatement. He was very knowledgeable about Georgian history, culture, architecture, geography, local wines and foods and politics. His English skills and attention to details were. His driving skills were also outstanding. Most importantly, Irakli was a pleasure to be with for the seven days of our tour. He was also very accommodating. By that I mean if someone was selling bread and cheese along the road, we'd stop for a snack and enjoy the country side. He went out of his way to introduce us to amazing foods and wines. I would highly recommend Irakli without any hesitation. He was truly a pleasure to be with and if i returned to Georgia I would contact him immediately.
