The Puerta de Tierra is a prominent historical monument in Campeche, Mexico, forming part of the defensive wall built in the 17th century to protect the city from pirate attacks. This gate, located on the opposite side of the Sea Gate, functioned as the main land access to the city. Characterized by its impressive colonial architecture and its robust bastions, the Puerta de Tierra is an excellent example of the fortification techniques of the time. Be careful booking last minute; we booked this the afternoon before a 9am trip and the guide did not turn up. Viator should not have sold this to us if they cannot rely on the operator picking up bookings
