If you are going to get to the heart of hygge, you need to go back in time. We begin our Hygge & Happiness tour near the characteristic yellow houses of Nyboder, a famed local district. Here you’ll meet and greet your native guide and your group for the day. Your native guide is a bona fide Copenhagener who is super excited to share their knowledge of Danish culture with you, as well as local historical secrets that you won’t find in any guidebooks! And because our tours are for small groups only, your guide has plenty of time to answer
Copenhagen
Your tour takes you through the oldest parts of the city, where you experience hidden gems in the form of cobblestone-filled streets, timber-framed houses, and green refuges of calm amongst the urban sprawl. Krusemyntegade is one of the cobblestone-filled streets that just scream hygge with that old world charm. It’s a great example of how hyggelig our city can be if you just take the time to wander.

Excellent walking tour with Jacob. He was so knowledgeable, articulate, and passionate in his description and understanding of the beautiful city of Copenhagen and it’s history.

A lovely few hours wondering the streets and parks of Copenhagen. We had a few stops for pastries, chocolate and a refreshing drink.

The guides were very friendly and did a good job explaining Hygge to us non-Danes. The tour included tastings of Danish pastries, flødeboller, and a selection of drinks, enjoyed inside authentic local bakeries and coffee shops. This slow pace and focus on taking a break and sharing a treat with others is certainly in line with Hygge, but we felt that it came at the cost of history and context. By the time the tour ended, we felt we had learned little about the history of Denmark and Copenhagen. Perhaps this was not the point of the tour, but it still felt like something was missing.

Oskar was an excellent guide. Great time management, excellent English and most importantly very knowledgeable on the city’s history. Engaged all participants in the small group, projected voice well so despite city sounds, were able to hear him. I did expect more of a focus on why Denmark’s happiness scores are high since the tour is labeled a Happiness & Hygge Tour. When I inquired, Oskar did have insight on why. Suggest Viator consider changing the name of tour since I had a city tour scheduled for the next day which I then canceled to avoid repeating.
