Granada Islets Tour – One of the most popular tours in Granada is the islets. These are a group of 365 small islands scattered about the Asese peninsula. The islets are of volcanic origin; they were formed when the Mombacho volcano blew much of its cone into the lake thousands of years ago, thereby creating the archipelago. Most of the islets are covered with vegetation. Beautiful scenery with a lot of birdlife and astonishing views over volcanoes (Ometepe Island & Mombacho) and Lake Nicaragua. Early in the morning or at sunset is the best time to visit the islets, where you can see a lot of birds and a colorful sky.

5.00We just returned from a 7 day customized private tour to Granada, Matagalpa and Leon. We were a family group of 6 adults and we had the most amazing and memorable time! Pablo designed the perfect trip for us taking into account all our special requests and preferences. The hotels were great! Our driver Manuel, and our guides were all very knowledgeable, friendly and flexible. I really appreciated Pablo’s prompt replies to my questions even though I admit I had a lot of them. I highly recommend Pablo and Welcome to Nicaragua Tours.

5.00It was an amazing trip. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and professional, and went above and beyond at every step on this trip. It was such a relief that I never had to drive a car or plan anything once I was there… Everything was done. And any hesitation about safety was gone, as I never felt unsafe the entire time. I came in at the last minute and wasn’t sure the team was able to fit me into the plans both at the hotel for the excursions and they took care of all of that less than one day. Over the six days I feel like we were able to experience, rainforest, volcanoes, lakes, marshlands, as well as historic landmarks in all of the cities. Thank you for an unforgettable time!

1.00I booked this trip specifically to see the sunset on the lake around the islets as recommended. Sadly the guide was distracted and seemed upset that it was an in English tour he complained about it in Spanish to the captain. I knew enough Spanish to understand what he was saying. He was also upset on the phone and was arguing and yelling at someone on the phone The total time on the boat itself was about an hour and half and I was back at my hostel before 6 pm. Did not see the sunset at all. Asked the guide if there was anywhere I could walk to see the sunset he ignored me and just asked if I like the tour or not. We stopped on one of the islands beamed me get a coconut I told him I don’t like them and I didn’t want to waste it but he made me get one anyway. The coconut water was just spilling all over me. I don’t know what to do with the coconut itself. Sad and disappointed. Be careful when booking. I think it’s better to wait until you get to Nicaragua to book when you are here.

5.00I did the private boat tour with Huascar. He is very knowledgeable on the areas and birds in the islets. I highly recommended this.

5.00We had a great time, a dream cruise on the calm waters of the islands around Granada. Abbott picked us up directly from the hotel and took us back to the suite. He asked us in what language we would prefer to have explanations. We were able to observe an impressive multitude of rare birds. Beautiful monkeys. There were lightning bolts in the sky that made the moment exceptional. We would therefore recommend that everyone take this cruise with Abbott. Thanks to him thank you in Nicaragua. 5.00I did 2 trips - Isletas de Granada and Volcan Masaya at night. The guide was Huascar and he was just wonderful! He has so big knowledge and is always happy to answer any questions. I travel a lot but never had such an amazing guide. 100% recommended!

5.00From the moment we landed, Welcome to Nicaragua went above and beyond! A driver greeted us at the airport with a warm welcome and made our journey to the Airbnb smooth and enjoyable, even including a few scenic stops along the way. I booked a tour for my daughter and me, and our guide Abbott was absolutely exceptional. He gave us a fantastic tour of Granada—sharing the rich history of the city, guiding us through its stunning churches, and even leading us up to the bell tower where we were treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the city. A surprise highlight was the tour of the chocolate factory, which was both educational and delicious! Abbott’s deep knowledge of local wildlife and culture added so much to the experience. He was professional, personable, and clearly passionate about sharing his country with visitors. To top it all off, Welcome to Nicaragua arranged a spontaneous trip to San Juan del Sur, which was an unexpected and unforgettable bonus. If you’re planning a trip to Nicaragua, I couldn’t recommend Welcome to Nicaragua more highly. Their service, hospitality, and attention to detail truly made our trip memorable!

5.00We felt there was no better place to be than floating around just after dawn with our guide pointing out exotic birds, monkeys and features of the isletas. We loved it and think it is a must-do for any visitor.
