Sallins
Your adventure starts in the historic inland harbour village of Sallins. All stops along the way are optional. You can choose to visit one or two, or simply cycle past if you prefer. The duration of your time on the Greenway is entirely up to you. Sallins is the historic site where trade on the Grand Canal first commenced, with horse-drawn passenger and cargo barges transporting goods between the small Kildare village and Dublin in 1780. Today, Sallins has transformed into a vibrant inland harbour village, boasting four award-winning restaurants and bars along the waterfront, as well as an array of boats, barges, houseboats, and a brewery.
A great place for lunch is Arth's Cafe, and you can enjoy free entry to the "From Malt to Vault" Exhibition at the Ardclough Visitors Centre. The Arthur Guinness Grave Museum features a mix of display boards, interactive touchscreen displays, and a short video of the nearby Oughterard Graveyard, where Arthur Guinness rests in the family vault. "From Malt to Vault" at the Arthur’s Grave Centre vividly narrates the remarkable journey of a teenage entrepreneur. This young man, whose grandfather sold beer from a donkey cart, went on to establish the world’s most renowned brewing brand.

5.00Took family on a trip to Digby Bridge and back to Sallins on a lovely warm evening in the summer and was pleasently surprised just how good it was, Ger and the crew couldnt do enough and the kids loved the trip and the narration by the boat captain A wonderful way to pass a few hours messing about on the river.

5.00I had a wonderful morning cycling along this beautiful stretch of the canal on a sunny summer morning. Ger's tour was really interesting and he put up with all my nattering as we gently cycled alongside the canal. I hadn't been on a bike in about 10 years but the ground was flat and it was really no effort to do the 10kms round trip. I can't wait for the weather to improve and do it all again!

5.00We had a wonderful time cycling along the Grand Canal with bikes from the Greenway Bike Tour. The weather was great, scenery fantastic, and we were able to stop for a nice lunch. Can't wait to do it again.

5.00Had a great family day out along the greenway thanks to the team at Grand Canal Greenway hire 🙌 They had a great selection of bikes and local knowledge , it was nice to be able to leisurely go between Sallins and Celbridge with the Lyon’s estate halfway through and pub in Celbridge before returning! Highly recommended for something different any time of year.
Definitely recommend if you’re anywhere near Sallins

5.00Wonderful experience bicycles were brand-new and we cycled along the canal way out of the cliff of lines to enjoy a wonderful coffee and some great conversations and then cycled back again… The owner is extremely helpful and we look forward to using the service again.

5.00Loved our experience cycling along the canal! Beautiful 13km round trip to beyond Cliff at Lyons. Lovely pub to stop at the end of the trail for a drink in the sun! Very good value bike hire, highly recommend!!
