Your Grand Turk sightseeing tour starts at the tram station near the cruise terminal on the southern end of the island. After boarding the open-sided tram, set off on a route that takes you all the way up to Grand Turk’s northern tip. During the tour, your local guide will narrate with fun facts and information about the island, pointing out old churches, inns, cannons, windmills and other historical attractions, and helping you spot wild horses and donkeys. Pass by Governor’s Beach and the Space Capsule on your way to Cockburn Town, where you’ll stop to enjoy a cool drink (not included in tour price) and food tastings by local merchants. You’ll also have the chance to shop for gifts and souvenirs. Then hop back on the tram to continue north, passing by Her Majesty’s Prison, built in the 1830s, and the National Museum, housed in a colonial building. Travel by Crabtree Park and North Creek on your way to the Grand Turk Lighthouse, perched on the northern end of Grand Turk. Built in 1852, it’s the only lighthouse in the Turks and Caicos. After snapping a few photos, head back down the island. The journey through Grand Turk also takes you past the island’s salt ponds, known as ‘salinas.’ These remnants of the country’s old salt industry are now home to flamingos and other tropical birds. As you go by them on the tram, your guide will tell you about the natural formation of the saltwater ponds and about the history of the industry, which dates back to the 1600s. Your tour ends with return to the tram station.

Was a nice break from cruise ship and had an enjoyable experience exploring the small island of Grand Turk. Doug was very knowledgeable having grown up on the island and felt like a true local perspective. He was very accommodating with variety of passengers with mobility issues. Tram had a few issues but he worked through it and didn’t affect the tour. Back tram speakers weren’t working which did affect their experience. We sat in front.

Easy walk from the ship to pick up the tram. Just follow the path to the main gate of the cruise port. (You'll be walking with the same crowd that are renting golf carts and ATVs for the day) Doug is the owner and guide of Island Tram Tours. We did start off a bit later than scheduled, but once onboard, the vibe was cool and relaxed. He takes you on a full tour of this little island, calling out the sites and giving you a healthy dose of local color. There are quick stops in town to shop or visit the museum and at the lighthouse to stretch your legs and have a look at the wild donkeys. It's a mellow way to see the island for a few hours in an open air tram catching the breezes. He doesn't end the tour until he finds where the flamingos are hanging out for the day so you can see them in the wild. After the tour, there is plenty of time for the beach or to look around the cruise terminal shops. Great little tour and very reasonably priced.

The tram tour was a good way to view the island. The tram ride kept us cool. There were several stops we got to go out and explore. Beaches, lighthouse, Turks sign. Nice area to wait for the tram too shaded and drinks and food around if needed.

It would easily have been a five-star experience if we could just hear the commentary over the sound of the tram’s motor. Doug was very friendly and knowledgeable. It felt like a thorough exposure to every place on the island. We got pretty dusty by the time it was done. Tour included short discounted visits to the very worthwhile museum and the lighthouse as well as stops to see flamingoes and a party beach. Advertised as a two hour tour it was more like 2.5 hours. There was a helpful person on the sidewalk to direct us to the waiting area. She said there would be drinks and restroom. The drinks were available for purchase at a nearby bar. After the tour I found that we could’ve gotten to the place by walking along the beach instead of along the sidewalk. If you want to find out about Turks & Caicos, I can’t think of a better choice than to ride in the front car on this excursion. Afterwards there is still plenty of time to enjoy the beach or the really nice cruise center pool.

I could not hear anything that the guide was saying, because of the noise of the car. The last part through a dirt road to see a few flamingos is too uncomfortable. The only place where we stopped worth a photo was the lighthouse. It is better to spend the time on a beach.

The tour was scheduled to start at 9AM. Our group, along with several others, arrived around 8:45. Finding the meeting point was somewhat confusing based on the instructions, though it’s a small island so asking around helped. Around 9:10, the tour guide’s wife (or associate) arrived to distribute wristbands and directed us to wait at another location. The tram did not arrive until about 9:35, then took us back to the original meeting point so we could wait for more people. As the time approaches 9:45, with no clear departure timeline and concerns about our later plans, we decided to rent a golf cart instead. The takeaway: if you are not punctual, this tour will wait for you. If you plan your day around the stated schedule, it may be frustrating. I don’t doubt that the tour itself would have been informative, and Doug seemed nice and funny. Unfortunately, the late and disorganized start cost us time and money we wouldn’t have otherwise spent. Book with the right expectation.

It was a very interesting tour and the operators very accommodating as towards the end of the tour, when we were still at the other side of the island, the tram had a flat tire - the tour guide's wife was very nice and drove out and picked a few of us older customers up and brought us back to our ship. The tour guide was very knowledgeable as well and overall it was a very nice day on a very beautiful island.

We took a Tram Tour of the island with Doug as our guide. He was funny and very knowledgeable considering he has lived his entire life on the island. Great facts, Plenty of time to shop or take pictures and Doug even went out of his way to find the island Flamingos for us. I would definitely take this excursion again. Thank you Doug!!!
