Jvari Church
Jvari Church is a UNESCO World Heritage site located on a hilltop overlooking the Georgian town of Mtskheta, which was the former capital of Georgia. The church is considered to be one of the most important religious and architectural landmarks in the country, as it is one of the oldest surviving churches in Georgia and is recognized as a masterpiece of early Christian architecture. Jvari Church was built in the 6th century on the site where Saint Nino, a female evangelist who brought Christianity to Georgia, erected a wooden cross. The church was originally a small chapel, but it was later expanded and renovated several times over the centuries. The current structure is a mixture of styles, including Georgian, Armenian, and Byzantine, and features a unique four-apsed design.
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral
The cathedral was originally built in the 4th century, and it has been rebuilt and renovated numerous times over the centuries. The current structure dates back to the 11th century and features a mixture of architectural styles, including Georgian, Byzantine, and Persian. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral is known for its intricate stonework, beautiful frescoes, and ornate decoration. The cathedral is also famous for housing the Robe of Christ, a seamless garment that is said to have been worn by Jesus during his crucifixion.

Don’t book this tour. I waited for 30 minutes in the correct location, but no van or bus arrived. And no one from the tour operator contacted me.

We had the most incredible time visiting Georgia, and a huge part of that amazing experience was thanks to our exceptional tour guide, Timor. He made our Kakheti wine-tasting tour an unforgettable journey filled with delightful memories. Here's a breakdown of the fantastic places and activities we enjoyed under his guidance: 1. Georgian Bakery: Our day started with a visit to a local Georgian bakery. Timor's insight into Georgian culinary culture was fascinating, and we savored the delicious freshly baked goods that were unique to the region. 2. Testing Georgian Sweets: Timor introduced us to a variety of authentic Georgian sweets. It was a sweet adventure exploring the flavors and learning about the cultural significance behind each delicacy. 3. Bodbe Monastery: Visiting the Bodbe Monastery was a spiritual and serene experience. Timor provided historical context and shared stories about the monastery, allowing us to appreciate its beauty on a deeper level. 4. Signagi - The City of Love: Timor took us to the charming town of Signagi, known as the "City of Love." The town's romantic atmosphere, cobblestone streets, and picturesque views were truly enchanting. 5. Alaznisveli Views: The scenic beauty of Alaznisveli was breathtaking. Timor guided us to some of the most stunning viewpoints, allowing us to take in the mesmerizing landscapes that Georgia has to offer. 6. Telavi: Our exploration continued to Telavi, where Timor shared local insights and stories. The town's character and history came to life through his engaging narration. 7. 900-Year-Old Trees: It was awe-inspiring to stand in the presence of trees that have witnessed centuries of history. Timor's knowledge about these ancient giants made the experience even more fascinating. 8. Gombori Mountains: The drive through the Gombori Mountains was a true adventure, and Timor's commentary about the region's geography and ecology added depth to the journey. Timor's passion for his country, combined with his extensive knowledge and friendly demeanor, made the entire trip remarkable. His attention to detail and his ability to create a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone in the group truly stood out. I'm incredibly grateful to have had Timor as our tour guide during this unforgettable Georgia visit.

It seems like the quality of trip really depends on your luck. When we purchased the tour to Mtskheta & Jvari, we were told that there will be bottled water and wifi as part of the package. However nothing was available. I had to buy water for myself. The tourguide focused more to Russian speaking tourists than English tourists. He spent like 15 minutes to explain to Russian group, meanwhile he spent like 1-2 minutes to explain in English. He was not so fluent in English at all... if you're an English speaking tourist please rather look for somewhere else.
