Gubei Water Town
Gubei Water Town surrounds the beautiful Mandarin Duck Lake Reservoir and leans against the Simatai Great Wall, the most dangerous and majestic section of the entire Great Wall. Regarded as 'Wuzhen in Beijing', Gubei Water Town boasts a combination of mountains, water and ancient villages. Most buildings are reconstructed in the traditional courtyard style. Based on five ancient villages and a water resource, this water town has developed into a large-scale sightseeing and holiday destination.
Simatai Great Wall
The Simatai Great Wall(司马台长城 Sīmǎtái Chángchéng) is largely in its original state, as it has not undergone much renovation like other sections near Beijing.It is situated in Miyun County, 120 kilometers (74.5 miles) northwest of downtown Beijing.This particular section, built in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) long, with the Jinshanling Great Wall to the west. It is really a tough hike to climb the wall, but it is enormously rewarding.

5.00Though location is far from Beijing, driver Duan was very kind, friendly and considerate - making the journey comfortable and smooth. Even if you don't speak Chinese, the translation app is useful and there are no problems communicating. Gubei and Simatai itself is beautiful and an enjoyable experience

5.00We could not have had a better day. This excursion was so worth the 2/2.5 hour drive from Beijing. Our driver was great - he set us up with all of the tickets we needed when we got there. The Simatai section of the Great Wall is so incredible. There were very few other people (unlike the large crowds at other sections) and the views from the wall were breathtaking. Water Town is just magical. We made sure to do the tour later in the day so we would be able to walk through Water Town after sunset when it is lit up. Again, the town was not at all crowded. The town itself is so clean and well maintained - it looks like it was just built. We did a boat ride from the entrance to the other end of the town where the cable car to get up to the wall was. After going to the wall, we strolled through Water town and had a great meal. Next time we visit China we plan on staying in one of the many hotels in Water Town so we can really explore the town.

5.00A wonderful driver,very helpful with great service mind. Gubei is a beautiful and charming water town, we had a happy relaxing day walked around. Simatai Great Wall is amazing. The cable cars and the walk way up are very easy to hike.
