Gubei Water Town
Gubei Water Town surrounds the beautiful Mandarin Duck Lake Reservoir and leans against the Simatai Great Wall, the most dangerous and majestic section of the entire Great Wall. Regarded as 'Wuzhen in Beijing', Gubei Water Town boasts a combination of mountains, water and ancient villages. Most buildings are reconstructed in the traditional courtyard style. Based on five ancient villages and a water resource, this water town has developed into a large-scale sightseeing and holiday destination.
Simatai Great Wall
The Simatai Great Wall(司马台长城 Sīmǎtái Chángchéng) is largely in its original state, as it has not undergone much renovation like other sections near Beijing.It is situated in Miyun County, 120 kilometers (74.5 miles) northwest of downtown Beijing.This particular section, built in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) long, with the Jinshanling Great Wall to the west. It is really a tough hike to climb the wall, but it is enormously rewarding.

5.00We had an amazing time both in the town and at the great wall. Our driver was polite and friendly. When we arrived, we spent about 2 hours in the town because there is so much to see. Lots of shops restaurants and it is scenic and beautiful. We loved the great wall. But you only need 1 hour or so up there. That means there is ample time to explore the town (you must!). You can also take the cable car which was a gorgeous ride up the mountain. We took a boat ride to get to the cable car. Everything is self explanatory and easy.

5.00We had a wonderful time at the town and great wall! Honestly, this is the way to go because other parts of the wall are so overcrowded, but we felt like some of the only people on this part. The town was amazing with plenty to do! The tour was self guided, but it was very easy to get around ourselves. We took a boat ride through the town to the cable car. Then the cable car up to the great wall. The cable car ride is a must do! Spend time in the town as well, so many cute shops and cats. This was the highlight of our trip so far. Our driver was wonderful!

5.00Gubei is not the star attraction but Simatai is n should not be missed especially the year round night tour. We have to thank Benny and his driver for bringing us there and back to Beijing safely. Benny was v responsive and His driver was also v patient n stick to the road speed. Great experience using him.

5.00Visited the wall first. Would have walked but did not start early enough to have the time, so took the round trip cable car. No crowds at all and fantastic views. Then wandered through charming Gubei water town as the golden hour lent the mountains a glorious golden glow. As it got dark the town became even more magical as we wound our way to the exit. Our driver got our tickets and explained everything clearly with his phone translator. highly recommend this tour. It was easily the best tour we had while in Beijing.

5.00Despite the long drive, driver Duan was very friendly, kind and considerate. Making the ride very comfortable. Gubei water town is a quaint village and very picturesque! The cable car up to Simatai is also very convenient! Highly recommended experience!

5.00Though location is far from Beijing, driver Duan was very kind, friendly and considerate - making the journey comfortable and smooth. Even if you don't speak Chinese, the translation app is useful and there are no problems communicating. Gubei and Simatai itself is beautiful and an enjoyable experience
