Villarrica Volcano is the most active in Chile! It has an open crater, emanates gases in permanence and according to its activity it is possible to see magma inside its crater. It is ideal for mountaineering, for beginners or for experienced people. The view from the summit (at 2847msnm) is breathtaking and allows to observe several lakes and volcanoes.
When the volcano is snowy, the descent is done with sleds and it is possible to lower the entire volcano by sliding sitting. It is a unique experience that is not performed on any other mountain in the world!
It's currently authorized to climb to the crater!

5.00The volcano is majestic. Climbing, enjoying a magnificent view, with the clouds beneath you, and then getting to the crater and seeing the smoke coming out is rewarding and magical. In the end, sliding down the slope is very fun. The climb is really not that easy, but the entire team of guides at Ermitaño is very well prepared and attentive to each participant, with a lot of patience. And there are several guides accompanying. All equipment is of excellent quality and they provide virtually everything necessary for the experience. A special thanks to Cristian, who was the one who most stood by us and helped us and encouraged us a lot throughout the experience. I recommend 100%.

5.00I share with you the incredible experience we had: the ascent of the Villarica volcano, located at the level of the city of Pucon 🤩. It is a sporting experience (1600m elevation gain), but worth it. To get there, we have selected Ermitaño Expediciones which I highly recommend for the following points: – Safety level: this is a fundamental point for them. For example, they took the time to explain the use of spikes, the attitude to have with the ice axe in case of slip, etc... Be careful, there are many agencies on Pucón, and unfortunately many neglect this fundamental point. For us, this point was very important. - The selected guides are super friendly, and attentive to their customers. On our way out, there were twelve of us. Naturally two groups of levels were formed (the first were going super fast 😮). The guides spread out, to take us all to the top (except two who decided to give up 🫤). All guides speak Spanish and English. And the manager of the agency, Marike, is French. It's a plus that makes a difference. - The material is of good quality, and regularly replaced (which joins the point on safety) - Price level: roughly speaking, all serious agencies charge a similar price for the ascent of Villarica. Many thanks to them for this wonderful experience 🙏

5.00Very good choice! Very professional and attentive guides! Although it is an activity that demands a lot (it’s not for anyone, you have to have a minimum of physical fitness), the guides were attentive all the time, assessing the factors at all times and encouraging those who were feeling the most tired. In the end, everyone in the group managed to reach the summit!

5.00This was a fantastic experience and a highlight of our South American holiday. Diego, Marie and their team of expert mountain guides made the day fun & safe. This is a challenging hike and we were fortunate to experience fine weather, so had amazing panoramic views from the summit. The best part was sliding down the snow most of the way on our butt using an ice axe for a brake - it was so much fun! Would highly recommended this company and hike for moderately fit people.

5.00I made the ascent to Villarrica volcano with Hermit and I couldn't be happier. The day was perfect and the experience was flawless from start to finish. The number of guides was fair, all very friendly and rigging, attentive to the rhythm of the group and always prioritizing safety. We were a mixture of Chileans and foreigners, and they handled it excellently thanks to their fluent communication in several languages, which made everything clearer and more entertaining. I’d already done the sunset sailing tour with them on my last couple’s anniversary, and it was great too, so I see consistency in the Quality of Service. You rating the professionalism and the good vibe, the owners and the guides are top notch. 100% recommended. I would return to them without hesitation. PS: the sleigh ride was great!
