  A really fun and memorable day. Ian was a great guide, giving us the right amount of information while also moving us along so we could experience the ruins ahead of the large cruise ship groups. Bug repellant and sunscreen were essential on this one, and I'm glad I had a hat with a chin strap during the boat ride (which has many fast moments).

  The Lamanai Mayan site and Jungle Boat Ride excursion was the HIGHLIGHT of our 7-day cruise for our group of 40 friends and family! We are so glad we booked this unique experience as a direct private excursion with Lamanai Belize Tours as the process was seamless from the start. The company was responsive and answered all our questions/concerns and made the trip memorable for our group. Elio and the brothers/family were super attentive, informative, friendly, and patient and ensured that we all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. They took care of the packed lunch (even accommodated vegan request for some of our members) and were able to do all that was planned and get us back to the ship in time. We felt like we were in good hands the whole time and would 100% recommend them for anyone considering excursions for any group size.

  Hands down one of the best cultural experiences in Belize. The journey up the New River alone is worth it—wildlife, jungle views, and a smooth ride that sets the tone before you even reach the ruins. Once at Lamanai, the guide was incredibly knowledgeable, breaking down Maya history, architecture, and symbolism in a way that was engaging and easy to follow. Climbing the temples and standing above the jungle canopy was unreal—raw, powerful, and humbling. You really feel the energy and history of the place. The lunch afterward was the perfect finish: fresh, local, and well-prepared, with generous portions and authentic Belizean flavor. Everything was well-organized, never rushed, and felt personal rather than touristy. If you’re in Belize and want a true mix of adventure, history, and great food—this tour is a must. I’d do it again without hesitation.

  This was an amazing trip. Ian picked us up at the ferry terminal and made stops at hotels for the rest of the folks. It was a small group, which was perfect. While we drove to the river, Ian told us about Maya culture and the different groups who have come to Belize in the last few centuries. The river was gorgeous. We saw crocodiles and lots of birds which Ian identified for us. He slowed or stopped the boat to show us interesting plants and animals and settlements along the way. When we landed in Lamanai, he took us directly to the ruins so we could get there before the cruise ship busloads arrived. We had one of the pyramids entirely to ourselves! The site is fascinating and Ian made it even more interesting and fun. The lunch his mom made was delicious. Highly recommend!

  We had a great day, thank you. Guide Ian was very friendly and knowledgeable, boat ride was fun and we saw lots of wildlife, and we managed to see the awesome ruins without experiencing any crowds.   It’s a long ride, but it’s worth it. The boat ride is beautiful and the ruins are stunning.. Julian was a great Tour Guide.

• Worthwhile, unique, and beautiful riverboat and temple tour

  This tour was outstanding and way above my expectations. Communication was prompt and excellent, and pickup at our hotel was super convenient. Julian was our tour manager, and he was friendly, very knowledgeable, and professional. The tour consists of a 1-hour drive via small van to a riverboat landing. Then you go on a really fun and scenic river speedboat journey for about another hour through the jungle, with brief stops to see amazing wildlife, until you reach the Lamanai architectural site. The site itself is larger than I expected and very peaceful and beautiful with its tropical wooded setting, and the ruins are also incredibly beautiful and dramatic. I've seen some other Aztec ruins in Mexico, but I loved the way these temples were set in the jungle by the river, so I think this is worth seeing even if you have been to other temples before. This is one of the only places where they have set up stairs to climb the temples and see amazing views. Finally, you get a delicious home-cooked traditional Belizean meal by Julian's mother, which the foodie in me was super happy about. Overall this tour was unique and well worth the cost and a major highlight of my trip to Belize. As others noted, make sure to bring good walking shoes, bug spray and sun protection. Enjoy!

  From the pick up at hotel to road trip and boat ride, Julien was patient, courteous and knowledgeable. This tour was the best part of my Belizean vacation.

  Julian was an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable and had an eye for seeing wildlife on the boat ride to the ruins. I was very nervous about making it back to our cruise ship in time since there is not guarantee with Viator, but Julian was reassuring and got us back with 30 minutes to spare before the last ferry. The ruins are beautiful, the river boat ride was relaxing, and the authentic Belize food (made by Julian’s mom) was delicious. This was a great way to experience the country.   What an awesome adventure!! Ian our guide was so kind & knowledgeable, we really learned a lot. On the river cruise we saw a crocodile, iguanas & turtles & saw a monkey in the jungle near one of the temples! The pacing of the day was perfect & Ian was skilled @ adapting so we avoided larger tour groups at the ruins. His mom even made us a feast for lunch! A five star day no doubt. To reiterate others’ reviews: bring sunscreen, bug spray, extra water, & comfortable shoes.
